TidyNest Privacy Policy

The TidyNest development team ("we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy applies to the TidyNest Android application (package name: com.dsf.TidyNest, referred to as the "App") and explains how the App accesses, uses, stores, and protects information on your device.
1. Overview
The App provides storage analysis, junk file management, large-file and duplicate-file detection, download and APK management, photo organization, app management, process information, data-usage statistics, ZIP compression, encrypted private storage, and a local trash feature.
The current version of the App:
- does not provide account registration or sign-in;
- does not integrate advertising, behavioral analytics, remote configuration, or cloud-storage SDKs;
- does not declare the Android Internet permission;
- does not upload your files, file metadata, app list, usage information, traffic statistics, PIN information, or scan results to us or to third parties; and
- performs the processing described in this Policy locally on your device.
2. Information Accessed and Processed
2.1 Files and Storage Information
After you grant file or media access, the App may locally read file names, paths, sizes, types, and modification times in shared storage to:
- find temporary files, APK installers, empty folders, and downloaded files;
- identify large files, documents, and archives;
- display photos, videos, and other media;
- calculate storage usage and provide cleanup suggestions; and
- move, restore, or permanently delete items after you confirm the action.
The App does not read file contents merely to build a standard file index.
2.2 Duplicate-File Analysis
When you use duplicate-file detection, the App reads candidate file contents and calculates SHA-256 hashes locally to determine whether files are identical. These hashes are used only for the current analysis. They are not uploaded and are not retained as a user profile.
2.3 Photos and Videos
The App reads the Android media index and generates thumbnails locally. It reads the relevant media content when you open a preview, perform photo analysis, or confirm an operation involving that item.
2.4 Installed Apps and App Icons
App management, process management, and data-usage features query Android launcher activities to obtain the names, package names, and icons of apps that have a launcher entry. The App does not use the QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES permission.
When Android permits it, the App may also read app, data, and cache storage totals. If full storage statistics are unavailable, the App uses the installed APK size as an estimate. App information is displayed locally and is not uploaded.
2.5 App Usage and Network Traffic
Only after you grant Usage Access may the App use Android system APIs to read:
- the most recent app usage time, to help identify apps that may be used infrequently; and
- device-level and per-app Wi-Fi and mobile data totals for the current month.
The App does not read network content, websites visited, message contents, account credentials, or passwords. Traffic statistics are not transmitted off the device.
2.6 File Compression
When you use file compression, the App reads the files that you explicitly select through the Android system file picker and writes them into a ZIP archive at the location you choose. Compression does not modify or delete the source files.
After compression, the App locally stores up to 100 history entries. An entry may contain the archive name and URI, source file names, file count, original and compressed sizes, and creation time. The ZIP archive remains at the location selected by you.
2.7 Private Space
The Private Space feature:
- stores a PIN verification value derived with PBKDF2 and a random salt, rather than storing the plain-text PIN;
- encrypts file contents with AES-GCM using a key managed by Android Keystore; and
- stores encrypted files and metadata in the App's private, no-backup directory.
Importing a file creates an encrypted copy and does not automatically delete the original. Clearing App data or uninstalling the App destroys the encrypted files and encryption key. The PIN and encrypted files cannot be recovered by us.
2.8 Trash
When you move an item to Trash, the App stores a local copy and the metadata needed for restoration, such as its name, type, original path, and deletion time. Trash items are retained for seven days by default and are then deleted by a local background task. You may restore or permanently delete them earlier.
2.9 Local Preferences
The App stores necessary preferences locally, including the selected display language, onboarding state, compression history, and Private Space state. These preferences are not uploaded.
3. Permissions and System Capabilities
The App may request or use the following permissions and Android capabilities:
1. All files access: used to scan, classify, and manage files in shared storage. On Android 11 and later, you must enable this access in Android system settings.
2. Photo, video, and audio access: used to display and organize the relevant media.
3. Legacy storage permissions: used only on older Android versions to read or write shared storage.
4. Usage Access: used to display recent app usage and monthly network-traffic statistics.
5. Notification permission: used for low-storage or scan reminders that you enable.
6. Package visibility: limited to a MAIN and LAUNCHER intent query used to find apps with launcher entries.
7. Background work: used to check locally for Trash items whose seven-day retention period has expired.
You may refuse or revoke permissions at any time in Android settings. Refusing a permission affects only the features that require it.
4. Collection, Sharing, and Off-Device Transfer
The current version does not have Internet data-transfer capability and does not send the information described in this Policy off your device. We do not sell, rent, or share this information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising, profiling, marketing, or cross-app tracking.
Android system components and AndroidX or Jetpack libraries are used for interface rendering, lifecycle management, system file selection, permissions, background work, and local processing. Their presence does not mean that we provide them with your files or scan results.
5. Retention
- Standard scan results, duplicate hashes, app lists, process status, and traffic statistics are primarily kept in memory and expire when replaced, refreshed, or when the App process ends.
- Trash items are retained for seven days unless you restore or permanently delete them earlier.
- Private Space content and PIN verification information remain until you delete them, clear App data, or uninstall the App.
- Up to 100 compression history entries remain until App data is cleared or the App is uninstalled. ZIP archives remain according to the location and storage method you selected.
- Language and onboarding preferences remain until App data is cleared or the App is uninstalled.
6. Your Controls
You can manage local information by:
- revoking file, media, Usage Access, or notification permissions in the App's permission center or Android settings;
- restoring or permanently deleting Trash items;
- deleting encrypted files from Private Space;
- deleting ZIP archives with your system file manager;
- clearing App data to remove preferences, compression history, Trash content, PIN verification information, and Private Space content; or
- uninstalling the App.
The App has no account system, so there is no server-side account or server-side account deletion process.
7. Security and Important Risks
The App uses data minimization, local processing, Android Keystore, AES-GCM encryption, PBKDF2 PIN verification, and no-backup private storage to help protect local information.
No software, device, or storage environment can guarantee absolute security. Keep independent backups of important files, review selected items before deletion, and protect your device lock and Private Space PIN. We cannot recover permanently deleted files, cleared App data, a forgotten PIN, or destroyed encryption keys.
8. Children's Privacy
The App is intended for a general audience and is not specifically directed to children. The current version does not create accounts, connect to the Internet, or upload personal information. If the App's audience or data practices change, we will update the relevant protections and this Policy.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy if the App's features, permissions, third-party components, or data practices change. We will revise the "Last updated" date when changes are made. If a change introduces new processing of sensitive information, the App will provide any required notice before requesting the related permission or capability.
