This professor introduced me to my research area and invested significant time and effort in guiding me while I was studying at UPenn. After working in his lab for over two years (2020–2022), I received a rejection from him. Although this was upsetting, I sincerely appreciate his guidance along my research path and understand that there may have been a potential mismatch that led to this decision.

However, in the three years following my graduation (2023–2026), this professor has continued to covertly prevent many other professors—both at UPenn and at other universities across the U.S. and Europe—from advising me, and has asked several of my collaborators to privately share updates about me. In contrast, he has never directly communicated any professional reasons to me that could have helped me improve. This behavior has persisted even after I explicitly asked him not to interfere in my life. I can provide further details if necessary. As the saying goes, actions that must be conducted in secret are unlikely to be well-intentioned, and this is indeed how things have happened.

Clearly, this is prolonged improper interference and an abuse of power intended to obstruct a researcher’s professional opportunities. I cannot accept such behavior under any circumstances. This does not only affect me; it could happen to anyone in a more vulnerable or overlooked position. I believe most people would neither agree with nor support it once they know the truth. I would appreciate your help in stopping this harmful behavior if you happen to be involved unintentionally.

After experiencing all of this, I have decided to move forward. I share my experience to raise awareness of the challenges and vulnerabilities that young researchers may face, and I hope no one else will have to go through the same.

Thank you for taking the time to read about my experience. I wish you all the best.
