Simple Nature Mandalas

For this activity, I used materials that I found in nature! I gathered acorns, rocks, sticks, mulch, and leaves (though if could have searched more for flowers which would be cool!!). I started with one object, in my case an acorn, for the center. As I started build out, I made sure to do the same object all the way around on all layers. It was actually pretty therapeutic!

Clothing Creations!

Can you tell what famous artwork I recreated?? If you have had me in 3rd grade, I bet you know! I chose to recreate "The Scream" by Edvard Munch using my laundry!! My first step was to choose a piece of artwork. I chose this one because I knew that I have a bunch of clothes using the colors in the picture. When I started to recreate this piece of artwork, I need to think in layers. The background layer, which is mostly just sky and water, was the first to get done. Once the background was done, I moved to the bridge because it lays on top of the water. The last pieces I worked on were the small shadowy figures in the back and the man screaming!

Geometric Sidewalk Chalk

If you have some sidewalk chalk and painters tape laying around, try this technique to dress up the streets! Tape off a rectangle and then within that rectangle, tape across and side to side to make triangles. Color in each triangle a different color. Peel off the tape and watch the beauty unfold!

Creative Color Wheel

Create a color wheel using materials found around your house! Remember, start at RED, ORANGE, YELLOW, GREEN, BLUE, VIOLET (and your wheel should go right back to RED).

Amazing Animals

Use old food boxes (cereal, crackers, mac and cheese, etc) to create an animal’s face. First layer is the shape of the animal’s head. Second layer, cut pieces for the eyes, nose, mouth and/or snout. Lay them on top of the animal head. Third layer, cut details like whiskers, fur, stripes etc. and lay them on last! If you have tape or glue, use it!
