La Bouche de Jean-Pierre is a tough watch, not because of its quality but only due to its subject matter. The looming threat and actualisation of the sexual abuse of a child made me sick to my stomach. I'm sure I won't return to the film in the future, but its story and direction did create a memorable (albeit hard to watch) experience. During the explicit scene of abuse, I was waiting for a cut — praying for the camera to drift — but the director pushed on during the events showing the viewer a frank and horrible scene. It's a sickly short film, colouring environments in pale greens a yellows that suspend the film in time feeling like it was shot in 60s Paris, not the 90s. It is a sombre and anxiety-producing film, but one that strongly warrants a content warning before viewing.
