Influenced by some of my favourite games (Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI), Chained Echoes pulls off a rare feat, wearing influences on its sleeve whilst advancing and modernising classic gameplay for a near-perfect JRPG experience. The story, characters, and gameplay kept me invovled for over 60 hours. Not only did I complete the game over a few months, but I was so enthralled by the world that I went to the lengths of exploring everthing the game had to offer and to see all the bonus end-game content. The only thing I could possibly complain about is the writing—at times felt like a poor translation—and some of the upgrade systems (namely the crystals upgrades). Chained Echoes is a treasure with music I won't soon forget and hope Matthias Linda produces a follow up in the coming years.
