Materials Needed:
Small Buckets, one per table/group
Answer Keys for each level of worksheet
Timer
Directions:
Prior to starting, give each table one small bucket. Then spread out the worksheets in a neutral location to all groups. They need to be in stacks- all of level 1 is stacked, next to is level 2 stacked up, then level 3, etc. Set a timer for 15-30 minutes depending on difficulty of levels. Tell students they are competing in a group either: with their table, boys vs. girls, etc. When the timer starts they need to go grab a worksheet that they can accomplish with little to no help. The worksheets vary in level and point values:
Level 1: Extremely Easy Worksheet (1 Point per Question)
Level 2: Easy Worksheet (2 Points per Question)
Level 3: Moderate Worksheet (3 Points per Question)
Level 4: Hard Worksheet (4 Points per Question)
Level 5: Challenge Worksheet (5 Points per Question)
As soon as a student finishes the worksheet they set it in the bucket to be graded. Immediately, they go grab another worksheet (they can not redo the same one they just did) and try to earn points for that one. The teacher walks table to table and scores all worksheets in the bin very quickly with the key. Example: If I am scoring a Level 3 sheet they get 3 points for every problem they did correctly. The teacher should write the score and the top and circle it! Then take it out of the bin and create a stack of scored worksheet for that table next to the bin. (This makes it so you can always tell what needs to be scored at every table by quickly glancing at the bin.)
The game continues until the timer goes off. At that point everyone stops working and the teacher quickly scores the remaining worksheets they haven’t gotten to. Every table tallies up all their points. The table with the most points wins.
FAQs and Tips:
A student does not need to complete every problem on the sheet, they can skip the ones they don’t know but they must work the entire time.
If you trust your students, put the answer keys on the board and make them correct their own then place it in their bin.
Students do NOT get to redo questions that were wrong when the teacher scored them. This helps prevent kids from just guessing and actually putting effort into the question if they know they only get one shot.
