Materials Needed:

Buzzer per group (optional they can just say the word “buzz”)
Timer
Directions:
Students are divided into groups, 4 people per group is best. Each group is divided into partnerships that play against each other. I will label them Team 1 and Team 2, Partner A and Partner B. Team 1 will start. 1A will be the clue giver and 1B will be the guesser. 2A and 2B are the buzzers. They will stand behind the clue giver and make sure that person does NOT use any of the black words.
The clue giver is trying to get their partner to guess the word on the card. However, there are “BLACK” words underneath that are not allowed to be said. They cannot use any actions during this, words only. The guesser is trying to guess the word or phrase that their partner is describing. The opposing team has the buzzing job. They are both supposed to watch over the reader’s shoulder. If the reader says any of the black words, they “buzz” the reader and take the card.
The teams are trying to get through as many of the cards as possible in 30 seconds. Once a team has finished, they count up how many cards they get through. Then the teams switch, and the other team goes. The team that got through the most cards wins.
FAQs and Tips:
I play this king of the court style in my class. I then determine the two best teams and have them play in front of the class. It helps other kids make better connections with vocab words. Sometimes hearing it in their peer’s lingo just makes more sense.
