In this game, the entire class works together against the teacher to survive a shark attack. Either the students win, or the teacher wins. Before the game begins, give each student a worksheet or assignment and choose which size game board you would like to use. Display the game board on the screen and make sure students have access to a wireless mouse or laptop so they can interact with the PowerPoint.
Once the timer starts, students begin working independently on their assignments. Each time a student completes a question, they may use the mouse to click on one square of water on the game board. After revealing what is hidden beneath that square, the student returns to their seat and continues working. The goal is for the class to uncover every hidden shark before time runs out.
As students reveal squares, they may uncover pieces of hidden sharks lurking beneath the water. If a shark piece is discovered, it is in the class's best interest to reveal the surrounding squares because the class must uncover the entire shark to survive. Teamwork and strategy are important, as students will need to decide where to click in order to find all of the sharks before the timer expires.
When the timer goes off, the game is over. If the class has successfully uncovered every shark on the board, they survive the attack and win the game. However, if even a single piece of a shark remains hidden beneath the water when time runs out, the shark attacks and the teacher wins. Will your class uncover every shark in time, or will a hidden predator be waiting below the surface?
FAQs and Tips:
The shark at the top of the templates have a number in their mouth. That is the number of sharks the class must uncover to win. Students do NOT know how big or small the sharks are, just the general number.
Game boards vary in size so you can use a smaller one for small groups or the larger boards for whole class.
Sharks CAN touch one another but they won't overlap in a singular square.
