Materials Needed:
Timer
Paper divided into sections
Directions:
To setup the game, open the PowerPoint template on your computer and project it on the screen. Then divide the class into groups. (We like to use tables so that they get to know their tablemates but groups of 4-6 are recommended.) Each person needs their own paper folded into sections- each section needs room to write 12 words in a line. Assign a leader at each table to lead the group.
Explain the game and even do an example round if needed. A list will appear on the board. Students have 2 minutes to fill out their paper SILENTLY. No talking. They need to write 1 item down per line on their paper. (Not complete sentences) The goal is to write an answer for every single line, but they can skip an answer if needed.. Once the timer goes off, the leader is in charge. They start by reading down their answer for the 1st line. If anyone has the same answer they say “Same.” and both people must cross it off their list. If nobody has the same answer, the next person reads their answer, and the process repeats. This continues until everyone has checked their 1st answer for repeats with others at their table. The process then repeats for all the lines.
At the end of the game every answer they wrote down should have been checked and any that is the “same” as another person should be crossed off. The players count how many answers they DIDN’T cross off and write that at the top. That is their score for that round. Project another list and play another round until you determine you are done. To end the game, we say the person with the highest score AND the lowest score in the entire class wins. (This shows who had the most unique answers and who had the most in common with others.)
FAQs and Tips:
Take regular lined paper and cut it into 4 squares/rectangles. It makes it super fast for keeping track of answers.
Set a 3-minute timer in between rounds for tables to check answers. This gives them time to chat and discuss but doesn’t let it drag on.
For older students (secondary) pick a letter and every answer must start with that letter. For example, if the letter is A all their answers must start with the letter A to make the game more interesting.
REMINDERS: TO EDIT ANY OF THE TEMPALTES YOU WILL FIRST NEED TO DOWNLOAD THEM TO YOUR COMPUTER. NOBODY IS ABLE TO ALTER THE ORIGINALS AS THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE USE THEM. ALL POWERPOINTS ARE MEANT TO BE USED IN POWERPOINT AND NOT GOOGLE SLIDES.
