Materials Needed:
One Bucket filled with slips from the “Mystery Bucket Slips”
Multiple small buckets, one per group
Worksheet one per student
Directions:
Divide the class into groups/tables. At the front of the class place the “mystery bucket” with all the cutup slips inside. Be sure to mix it around really well. Each group needs a small bucket at their table.
Students will work on their assignment individually. When they complete a problem/question, they check it off with the teacher. If they are correct, they go up and draw a slip from the mystery bucket. Quickly, they check the point value. If it is worth positive points, they want to go and place it in their own table’s bucket. If it is worth negative points they should go and place it in another table’s bucket. They do NOT share the point value out loud, so the game is a complete mystery until the end.
Once the time is up, they quickly add up all the points in their table bucket. Whichever group has the most points is the winner.
FAQs and Tips:
If you can place the “mystery bucket” up high so students can’t see in when drawing. They are all cheaters and will try to dig around for the highest point values.
If you print the mystery slips on cardstock you will be able to save them and reuse them every time you play instead of creating new slips.
