Materials Needed:
Worksheet one per student
Wireless/accessible mouse for students to use
Directions:
Divide the class into groups, they don’t need to be perfectly equal but groups of 4-6 work best. Students will each be given their own assignment to work on. Display the Minesweeper PowerPoint template on the board. Place a mouse somewhere within reach of the students.
Students will work on their assignment. If they finish a problem they check it off with the teacher. If the teacher says they are correct they walk to the front of the class and click on a box. Every box is worth one point, unless it has a bomb under it. If they click a square and it reveals a number it means that square is somehow touching that many bombs. Example: If the box has a 2, two of 8 boxes that the box you clicked borders have bombs. A number is NOT the number of points they earn. Again, every box is worth one point and only one point.
Students are trying to click on any box that is not a bomb. If they click a box without a bomb they earn one point and go sit back down. If they reveal a bomb their team resets to 0. This continues with students from different teams going and clicking on boxes. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.
FAQs and Tips:
There are multiple boards on the same powerpoint so you can use a different one each time and the students don’t memorize the board.
There is a Grinch themed version of this game in the Christmas Section of the game’s page of the website.
