Materials Needed:
Elastic headbands one for every partnership
Cards set per partnership
Directions:
Direct players to find a partner. Each partnership needs 1 headband and a stack of playing cards-give partners time to collect materials. Without looking at the cards, make sure the “this side up” are all facing the same direction. Determine who is Partner A and who is Partner B.
Partner A for every team will start. They will put the headband on with their stack of cards between the headband and their forehead. The teacher will set a timer for 2 minutes. Partner B must try to get Partner A to guess what card is on their forehead through clues. They can NOT say any part of the word and no rhyming. If their partner is able to guess the word, they remove it and keep going with the next word. They want to get as many words as possible in the two minutes.
Then they switch and Partner B wears the headband with the remaining words and Partner A gives the clues. The timer goes for 2 minutes again. After this round, they count how many cards they got through collectively as a partnership and that is their score. The team with the most points wins.
FAQs and Tips:
Headbands are not necessarily needed. You could just play with the cards and hold them against their forehead, but their arms might get tired.
If you want to “up” the rigor- make them give examples of the vocab word NO definitions. Application is harder than defining something.
