Materials Needed:
Basketball hoop
One or multiple basketballs
Whiteboard
Whiteboard Markers
Worksheet one per student
Directions:
Divide the class into teams- tables or groups of 4-6 work best. Have teams decide on a team name and write them on the white board with 10 “X” marks below them like shown in the picture. Place the basketball hoop in the front of the room with a line taped on the ground to shoot from. The goal of the game is to be the team with the most X marks, or the only team left with an X mark
Pass out the assignments and students immediately start. After students complete a problem, the teacher checks it off. If they get it correct they shoot a basket. If they MISS the shot nothing happens, and they return to their seat. If they get it CORRECT they make a choice- add an X to their team or erase an X from another team. They quickly decide, do that, and then return to their seat.
The game continues with kids adding and erasing X marks until the game is over. The team with the most X marks wins.
FAQs and Tips:
Be sure to allow them to add or erase so no team is ever “OUT.” Giving them the option to come back and play will keep them engaged longer.
Having multiple balls will help so students can shoot one after the other and you don’t have to wait until someone chases down the ball they missed.
