Directions:
This game will work with any worksheet or task cards that you have. Divide the class up into 6 teams and assign each team a color. (green, yellow, blue, gray, red, or purple) Open the PowerPoint template but do not display it like a slideshow. Leave it on the editing page like shown to the right. Students need to able to access the mouse to drag pieces around on the screen.
Students will work independently on their assignment. When they have a problem/question done they will come and check it off with the teacher. If it is correct, they go to the computer and can move 1 line (horizontal or vertical, not both) to the board. Once they move a line they return to their seat and continue working.
The object of the game is to be the person/team that completes a box. If you are the person who moves the line to complete a box, then you drag one of the corresponding-colored boxes to the box you finished. See example picture to the right. The game continues like this with students continually checking off problems and trying to create boxes. Once the time is up, the color with the most boxes on the board wins.
FAQs and Tips:
Tell students they must immediately check off a problem once they complete it. If they do not immediately check it off, they forfeit moving a line. Otherwise, students will wait until everyone in their group has a problem and walk up together to move lines guaranteeing a box. NO! That is cheating the game.
This is an iMessage game so most students will know how to play. Make sure to clarify that they if they finish the box they drag the color of their team to claim it as their own.
Students will argue about who had problems done first, especially if a box has 3 lines waiting to be finished. I sit in a chair by the computer, and they have the line up so nobody can say they had a problem done before someone else. It is whoever gets to me in line first. :)
You can see how they section off boxes and then fill it with their color square to help keep track of points for each team.
REMINDERS: TO EDIT ANY OF THE TEMPALTES YOU WILL FIRST NEED TO DOWNLOAD THEM TO YOUR COMPUTER. NOBODY IS ABLE TO ALTER THE ORIGINALS AS THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE USE THEM. ALL POWERPOINTS ARE MEANT TO BE USED IN POWERPOINT AND NOT GOOGLE SLIDES.
