Materials Needed:
Projector and Screen
Colored cards for each group: white, gray, black, brown, blue, purple, pink, orange, blue, green, yellow
Directions:
To set up the game, open the PowerPoint template on your computer and project it on the screen. Then divide the class into groups. (We like to use tables so that they get to know their tablemates but groups of 2-4 are recommended.) Each group needs their own set of colored cards. There should be 11 colored cards for each table. Once everyone has their materials you are ready to start gameplay.
You will project the first “prompt” on the board. Example: Oreo Logo, 2 colors. Each group must then decide which two colors are included in the Oreo Logo. Give the class 10 seconds to decide and on your go, they must hold their choices in the air. Then click to the next slide on the PowerPoint and it will reveal the correct answer. Count up how many groups got it WRONG. Any group holding up the correct answer gets a point for every team who answered incorrectly. Example: If 4 teams missed the question, any team who is holding the correct colors gets 4 points. We recommend they keep track of their own points on a piece of paper or something.
This process repeats with new “prompts” until you want the game to end. The team with the most points wins. If it is a tie, rock, paper, scissors, or whatever you choose.
FAQs and Tips:
There is NO arguing with the correct answer. These have all been fact checked.
If a team does not hold up their cards on “go” then they automatically miss it. They can’t wait to look at other teams’ answers before holding theirs up.
This is meant to be discussion based. You want the kids to talk with each other about their answers. The 10 seconds should not be in silence.
Cap the game at either a point value or time limit. Kara likes to play this game as a warm-up/bell-ringer so her class plays for 10 minutes. Kirsten likes to cap the game when the first team to reach 10 points ends the game.
Count the time for each question down out loud. Example: If you give them 15 seconds, start counting down from 15 once you read the prompt.
If you don’t want to do colored cards each time you can just have them write down their colors. WARNING: This does get a bit more time-consuming than having physical cards.
REMINDERS: TO EDIT ANY OF THE TEMPALTES YOU WILL FIRST NEED TO DOWNLOAD THEM TO YOUR COMPUTER. NOBODY IS ABLE TO ALTER THE ORIGINALS AS THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE USE THEM. ALL POWERPOINTS ARE MEANT TO BE USED IN POWERPOINT AND NOT GOOGLE SLIDES.
