Materials Needed:
One whiteboard and whiteboard marker per team
One good whiteboard eraser for the whole class
1 or 2 dice (dependent on the number of teams you have)
Timer
PowerPoint Template with questions
Directions:
Divide the class into teams, teams of 4 work best. Give each team a white board and white board marker. Set your timer for 2 minutes. Tell groups they have 2 minutes to draw their best castle on their team’s whiteboard, recommend making it big and detailed. Then take all the markers back. The winner of the game will be the last team with any piece of their castle remaining.
A question will appear on the powerpoint, every team needs to determine an answer and write it down. After sufficient time has been given to answer, roll the dice. The number on the dice will correspond to a group, (If I roll a 4 that refers to table 4.) That table shares their answer. If they get it correct they get to “attack” a castle. If they get it wrong another team can steal their turn and attack them. “Attacking” a castle works as follows: You give one player on the team the eraser. They can pick any castle in the room. You say start and give them 2 seconds. They erase as much of the castle as they can in that time. When you say stop they MUST stop or their castle gets revenge.
“Stealing” a turn works as follows: If a team answers wrong, you roll the dice again, if that team has the right answer they will take the eraser and go and “attack” the original team’s castle who got it wrong first. If the 2nd team also gets it wrong, the turn is a “wash” and no castles are attacked.
The team with the “most” castle remaining at the end wins the game. Teacher is the King/Queen and gets to decide what castle has the “most” remaining.
FAQs and Tips:
Play the king or the queen role as the teacher. If at any point a team is off task the queen can destroy a castle.
You can adjust the timer for your grade level. You can give them more seconds to attack a castle. In the high school setting 2 seconds is great.
No team is ever out. If you castle gets destroyed you can help decide who wins by still attacking other castles if you get a question right.
