Materials Needed:
Team Pieces (candy man cutouts or colored post-it notes)
6-sided dice
Gumdrop Candy Cards template cut out
Worksheet one per student
Directions:
First you need to set up the computer. Open up one of the game board templates in PowerPoint. Select “Slideshow”, “From Beginning” at the top navigation. Divide your class into teams, usually 6 teams work best, and assign each team a corresponding color to the game pieces. (You can just use colored post-it notes or print and cut out the candy man pieces. Those work best if you put magnet tape on the back so they can be reused anytime you play.) Each team places their game piece on the “Start” candy.
Students work in groups to complete the assignment or task cards. They earn turns when the entire group has an answer. When they earn a turn one player from their team goes and rolls the dice. They move that many spaces on the game board. If they land on a gumdrop space, they draw a gumdrop card and follow the instructions on that card. If they end on a square with an arrow, they get to jump ahead by following that arrow's path. They then return to their seats and continue working on a new problem with their group.
The first team to reach the end wins or whoever is farthest when time runs out.
FAQs and Tips:
Use a new template depending on how long you want the game to last. The templates grow in size on the PowerPoint.
If you want to make the game more fun, you can add a KING CANDY card. Basically, anytime someone rolls a 6 they get to draw a king candy card which could help OR punish other teams in the game. Example: Move any team back 3 spaces.
REMINDERS: TO EDIT ANY OF THE TEMPALTES YOU WILL FIRST NEED TO DOWNLOAD THEM TO YOUR COMPUTER. NOBODY IS ABLE TO ALTER THE ORIGINALS AS THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE USE THEM. ALL POWERPOINTS ARE MEANT TO BE USED IN POWERPOINT AND NOT GOOGLE SLIDES.
