Materials Needed:
PowerPoint Template: Version 1, Version 2, Version 3, Version 4
Accessible/Wireless mouse for computer
Worksheet one per student
Directions:
First you need to set up the computer. Open one of the game board templates in PowerPoint. Select “Slideshow”, “From Beginning” at the top navigation. I duplicate my screen, then place the mouse where students can access it. (You can use any device that is compatible with PowerPoint and your projector.)
Divide the class into 5 teams. There needs to be a yellow team, blue team, red team, orange team, and green team. They can be seated near each other or not, whatever you prefer. Students work independently on their assignments. When they complete a question/problem they check it off with the teacher. If they are correct, they walk to the computer. Using the wireless mouse, they click on any chocolate square. When they click on it, the chocolate will disappear and reveal a candy crush piece. Their goal is to uncover their color of pieces. Example: If I am on the orange team then I am hoping to choose a chocolate square that has an orange candy underneath it. Once they reveal a piece, they go sit back down and continue working. Sometimes they will reveal a different team’s colors because it is pure luck, and that team gets a point.
This continues until the time limit is reached/assignment is finished/whatever you choose to end the game. Once the game has ended you quickly count how many of each color there are. The team with the MOST of their color showing wins the game.
FAQs and Tips:
If you want to avoid counting it up at the end. You can assign one person at each table as the score keeper. Anytime someone reveals a piece they shout out the color. The score keeper for that color adds a tally mark to their team. The team with the most tallies wins. It will save you like 3 minutes of counting up colors at the end. Example: Joey walks up and clicks on a chocolate square. Underneath is a blue piece. He shouts “BLUE.” Sarah, the blue team score keeper, adds a tally to her paper. The blue team now has 5 tallies which correspond to the 5 blue candies that are revealed on the board.
Use a new template each time to avoid kids memorizing where specific colors are.
Pro-Tip: Use a school laptop and set it up in front of the projector screen so kids aren’t running and bothering your desk.
The board templates are built similar to candy crush meaning there is a pattern. Generally, if they find 2 in a row of their color the 3rd one will be either a row above or below and diagonal from their row. Not always the case
REMINDERS: TO EDIT ANY OF THE TEMPALTES YOU WILL FIRST NEED TO DOWNLOAD THEM TO YOUR COMPUTER. NOBODY IS ABLE TO ALTER THE ORIGINALS AS THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE USE THEM. ALL POWERPOINTS ARE MEANT TO BE USED IN POWERPOINT AND NOT GOOGLE SLIDES.
