Materials Needed:
Bounce Off boards one per group (Link here to Five Below)
Bounce Off balls one per student
Worksheet one per student
Directions:
Divide the class up into groups or tables. Each group needs their own Bounce Off Game Board. Every student should have their own worksheet or a set of task cards. The overall gist of the game is students will be working independently on a worksheet but earning points as a team. For each question they do, they check it off with the teacher. If they are correct, they get to take ONE turn of the game. This game can be played in multiple versions, as outlined below.
Rapid Fire Version:
This is the easier version. You pick 1 pattern card for the ENTIRE CLASS. I recommend projecting it on the board. After every question/problem a student gets to try and bounce one ball onto their group's board. (They bounce it on the table first and then it lands on the black game board.) If it lands in any space that is shown on the pattern they get 5 points, if it lands on the board but not in a pattern spot, they get 1 point. If it doesn’t land on the board, they get no points. They play as a table so anytime someone on the table gets points, they increase their TABLE score. The table with the highest score wins.
Sabotage Version:
Each table starts with 30 points written BOLD somewhere on a whiteboard or piece of paper. You pick 1 pattern card for the ENTIRE CLASS. I recommend projecting it on the board. After students complete a problem, they get to try and sabotage another team. To do this, they walk to another table and bounce a ball on their board. If it lands in a pattern spot they subtract 5 points from that team’s original 30 and write their new score. If it lands on the board but not in a pattern spot they only subtract 1 point. The last team standing or the team with the HIGHEST point value left wins the game.
Pattern Version:
This is the more challenging version. Creating a specific pattern takes more time and a little bit of ability. I would only recommend this version if students have played the game a few times. Each group flips over their OWN pattern card. The first group to complete the pattern wins. Students will complete problems and take 1 bounce for each question. If they bounce it and it doesn’t land in the pattern they need, they remove it and it works like a wash. If they bounce one and it lands in a pattern spot they need, then they LEAVE it on the board. Their goal is to be the first group to complete their pattern.
FAQs and Tips:
You can create your own Pattern Cards using the PowerPoint template by moving the PINK circles. You might want to add more for younger grades.
REMINDERS: TO EDIT ANY OF THE TEMPALTES YOU WILL FIRST NEED TO DOWNLOAD THEM TO YOUR COMPUTER. NOBODY IS ABLE TO ALTER THE ORIGINALS AS THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE USE THEM. ALL POWERPOINTS ARE MEANT TO BE USED IN POWERPOINT AND NOT GOOGLE SLIDES.
