Materials Needed:
Assignment one per student
Directions:
Using your computer project the “Behind the Box” PowerPoint onto the board. You need to make sure your computer is set to “duplicate” the screen, not extend the screen in your display settings. This will make it so exactly what is showing on your computer will appear on the board. Your computer screen will need to face wherever the kids will have access to it. I place my mouse on the opposite side of my desk as well. (General Idea: a kid needs to be able to walk up to your desk, move the mouse around and see what is happening on the screen.)
Start by dividing the class into teams. We normally play at tables, meaning 4-6 people per group. The “Behind the Box” template should be on the board. Students work individually on their assignments. Once they complete a problem they raise their hand and check the answer. If they are correct they walk up to the computer and use the mouse to click on a random box. When they click on a box, the box disappears and a point value appears behind it. The student then goes to their table and adds that to their group score. The student then sits down and continues working.
This process continues with kids checking off problems and clicking boxes. The groups will need to keep a running total of their score as the game goes on. The group at the end of the time/worksheet who has the most points wins.
FAQs and Tips:
If you have an assignment with lots of questions, box them up. For example, draw a box around questions 1-4. They must complete all problems in that box to click on a box on the board.
If students accidentally hit spacebar the screen will go black just use the arrows to go back to the screen they were using.
REMINDERS: TO EDIT ANY OF THE TEMPALTES YOU WILL FIRST NEED TO DOWNLOAD THEM TO YOUR COMPUTER. NOBODY IS ABLE TO ALTER THE ORIGINALS AS THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE USE THEM. ALL POWERPOINTS ARE MEANT TO BE USED IN POWERPOINT AND NOT GOOGLE SLIDES.
