PhD in Geoscience; MSc in Geotechnical Engineering; MEng in Geological Engineering (5 years degree)

The freedom and independence to think and decide my research goals and knowing that I am contributing to the formation of the next generation of geoscientists
What does a Senior Lecturer do?
Research on developing geoscience-based solutions to contribute to the clean and digital energy transition and knowledge transfer to the new generation of geoscientists

PhD and research experience

Where else could you work as a Senior Lecturer?
As a senior lecturer in geosciences I could transition into a senior or principal geoscientist position in engineering and environmental consultancies, energy companies, research institutes, public bodies.

Did you have a career break or career change?
I have changed career paths several times jumping back and forth between academia, research and industry in several countries including UK, Italy, Norway.
Do you travel, either within the UK or overseas, in your role? How often?
I travel three times per year.
Do you work a regular length day/week, or are shifts involved?
I have substantial flexibility, but regular working hours is the best descriptor.
What advice or extra information do you wish you’d had before starting this career?
Be bold, follow what you really want, what makes you thrive and feel that you belong. Do not be afraid of failing - fail fast and many times but always recover even faster.
What opportunities do you have for developing your skills in your current role?
Many - it is somehow up to me to decide what I need to do to get better as an academic and geoscientist
What position would you like to hold in 5 years?
Society / Technology moves fast - it is very dynamic. Professionally, I think 5 years is a long time. It is not only about job title / position it is about what you do with it.
