🔸 Your ideas, my commitments for District 7
I’ve met many of you while going door to door, and each of those conversations has helped me better understand what matters to our community. Here are some of the concrete actions I plan to put forward, inspired by our exchanges.
Thank you for your questions, honesty, and dedication to improving our neighbourhood. That’s what gives Saint-Lambert its soul and strength.
👇
Taxes
Taxes have increased by more than 20 % in four years, without citizens feeling they’re getting better services.
🔸 Promote multi-year budget planning and performance indicators to avoid short-term decision-making.
🔸 Review the public tender process to encourage competition, fairer prices, and shared services with Longueuil when possible.
🔸 Collaborate to establish an annual citizen budget report written in clear language, so we can all see where public funds go and what results they produce.
🔸 Work with the municipal administration to review City expenses, identify inefficiencies and redirect savings toward our priorities.
🔸 Think differently: explore ways to reduce our reliance on taxes through innovative ideas.
Road safety around schools
How can we better protect our children near schools in an increasingly busy traffic environment?
🔸 Secure funding to improve sidewalks and crosswalks and install speed-calming measures (like raised pedestrian crossings) around schools.
🔸 Ensure priority snow clearing of school corridors during winter maintenance.
🔸 Work with police and the City to identify risk zones and increase police presence.
🔸 Collaborate with schools, parents and organisations like Piétons Québec to improve morning drop-off and develop safe walking routes to school.
🔸 Make bike routes safer, in partnership with organizations like Vélo Québec.
Development and heritage
New projects are multiplying and raising questions about preserving the human scale, beauty, and architectural harmony that define Saint-Lambert’s charm.
🔸 Encourage transparent citizen consultation from the earliest stages of planning.
🔸 Advocate for clearer rules on density and heritage protection so developers know what’s acceptable before submitting their plans.
🔸 Require neighbourhood impact studies before approving any major project (traffic, green spaces, sunlight, pressure on infrastructure).
🔸 Encourage and support the repurposing of existing buildings and review the permit structure to better support property renovation.
🔸 Explore new partnerships to protect and promote our heritage buildings.
🔸 Work toward better management and enhancement of our community assets such as parks, the Coulée verte, soccer fields, baseball fields and skating rinks to maximize their use, beauty, and sustainability.
Transparency and communication
Many citizens feel that decisions are made behind closed doors and information arrives too late.
🔸 Hold quarterly public meetings for District 7 to gather citizens’ views before council votes.
🔸 Create a citizen advisory committee to channel ideas between council sessions.
🔸 Publish clear and accessible summaries of agendas and council decisions.
🔸 Promote better access to public data, for example, by creating an open data portal and providing faster updates.
Noise and quality of life
I’m currently speaking with residents to better understand the scope of the issue and identify possible solutions. I’m aware that this situation is causing significant frustration in some areas.
👉 If you’re affected by this issue, please send me a message by email (votezthierryharris@gmail.com) so I can come discuss it with you in person.
City Hall workplace climate and collaboration
I’m committed to helping foster a better work climate at City Hall, based on listening, collaboration and transparency so we can move projects forward together in service of Saint-Lambert residents.
