Just how did it turned out like this?
All around me, men were yelling curses and profanities as they bustled across the ship deck, trying to save he ship in which they're on
"Patrick, status report!" I yelled over the roaring sound of thunder, the raindrops falling on my clothes keeps getting heavier by the seconds. My hands were steady as I carefully steered the wheel in the right direction
"Captain" A black-haired boy scuttered to me, he looked no younger than 18 and is looking afraid. A look at his face would reveal this to be the first time at sea "There's three of em', one is right behind us and the other two is closing in at 3 and 6 o'çlock. I can identify them as the Atlas military! Two is lightly armored, but the one behind us pretty well-armed"
"How far away are we from Menagerie?!"
"10 and a half miles ahead of us, Captain!"
I cursed, slamming my hand against the wooden wheel in frustration
Just how did it turned out like this? This isn't supposed to be part of the plan. Get to Menagerie is certainly my intention, but not by this way
"Well damn, everything I had in mind just went down the rejection hole" Reining in my anger, I muttered and sighed "Look like there's no other way. Tell the boys to close the sail and ready our cannon, savvy?"
"Captain?"
"Just do it" The boy nodded and ran down the deck, yelling my order at the others on the ship, leaving me alone at the back to tends to myself
I could feel the ship moving slower by the seconds. The military's vessels seems to have noticed this and sped up their approach to us, with two of them beginning to flank us from the side. None of them even bother to raise their guns just because of the fact that our ship is made from wood
They have taken the bait
"What are you intending to do, Captain Kenway?" I looked over my shoulder
A burst of lightning flash beside the ship, revealing shadow leaning against the side of the stern
The man with jagged crimson hair draping over one of his eyes and two black horns growing out of his forehead stepped up beside me, three katanas sheathed beside him. His face was relaxed despite our current situation, a proof that he's experienced this many times before
Matsuo Taurus, brother to Adam Taurus, also the first mate of the Morningstar vessel that we're currently on. A powerful subordinate if his skill with the sword were to indicate anything
I'd normally like to have a fight with him. Too bad the circumstances of our meeting doesn't allow me to do that
"They say dead men tell no tales" I smiled coldly "I figured they'll be a fine addition to Davy Jone's Locker, don't you think?"
Another flash in the distance, and for a moment I could swear his face was all grin
<><><><><><><><><><>
Now, I know what you're thinking. There's probably many 'why' in your head just waiting to come out of your lips in the form of a question, is that right?
Why the hell am I maneuvering a ship in the middle of a storm?
Why are the crews claiming me to be their captain?
Why is my last name Kenway?
Why is Adam's father my first mate?
Most important of all...why are we being chased by the Atlas Military?
And I must say: Those are good questions, one that has a long story behind it. Somehow I've managed to fucked a perfectly normal task up and turned it into something bizarre, despite all odds of it happening
....That must have been my natural skill given how much time it'd happened already
Anyway, to explain what happened would take some time, so grab a seat by the fireplace, have some cookies and pancakes if you want, and I'll tell you everything about it
You see, It all started yesterday, when I was still on my way to Menagerie....
<><><><><><><><><><><>
After 3 days of travelling, I've finally crossed the distance of 350km on land from the Headquarter to Menagerie, in order to start my vacation on what I would dub as the 'sunny paradise'. And things are looking pretty good for me, given that there's still 7 days left until the time limit for the quest ends
How did I crossed that large of a distance in that short of a time? Well, There's certain advantages to being able to run at 50km/h without the need for resting, thanks to my [Unlimited Stamina] perks, which renders the need to eat and sleep in order to refill my energy as completely unnecessary
In fact, the only breaks I've taken are to hunt more animals to take their abilities! I've gained 3 Grimm forms (which has their own exclusive perks) and 10 new skills as a result of my hunting, and is using one of them as I am speaking to you
[Wolf Form] (Default): +20% HP regeneration speed. Gives [Negative Status Immunity]
[Spider Form]: Allows the use of [Greater Poison] and [Bloody Web Generation]
[Panther Form]: +200% sprinting speed. Gives you the skill [Apex's Instinct]
[Bat Form]: Gives you [Authority Of The Night]
[Ghost Form]: Able to use [Lesser Possession] on objects and weaker opponents
[Human Form]: No Effect
Of course, I can only access those Perks when I'm in the according form to that Perk. Which means I have to transform myself into a panther to get the 200 percent boost in speed, and the human form to...do absolutely nothing? I don't know
The fact that my primate construction had almost no effect kind of put me off a little. Are modern humans that useless in nature? Even our kind before our last evolution is better than us
Early humans had larger brain capacity and better memory than us due to the lack of information storage, so their chances of surviving in the wild are considerably better
Is this a regression in the chain of evolution, or it's simply an adaptation to our growth in modern technology?
Oh wait, talking about growth, there's another thing. I am now at level 76 after hunting down such a large quantity of animals. My current levels capped at 100, to which you already knew what it means
I will soon experience an Evolution, possibly a week from now if I focused on EXP grinding
Yeah, after so long, I'll finally ascend to another level again
"So many new goodies come with this package" I grinned
The last time I evolved, only my physical attributes and appearance changes. My racial skills are also unlocked, sure, but that's partly to the level up I received from fighting Summer. This time, it will be different
Entire set of new racial classes: [True Vampire], [Half-Lord Grimm], [Gamma Beowolf], [Lord of Shadows], [Nighthunter] and others, more interesting job class which is just a higher form of my already existing one, which also comes with their unique skills that will be unlocked the moment I successfully evolved myself
Boi I just can't wait. It's like the night before Christmas to me
With that same good mood, I sprinted through the snowy fields of Atlas with newfound excitement. Soon enough, i was nearing the sea boundary of this place in only a few minutes
The water has partly froze due to the cold weather, but I could see several vessels heading toward land, some of which bears the flag of Atlas, Mistral, and Vale, but none of Menagerie itself
"Huh, oh wait, I almost forgot Menagerie is supposed to be an island" I sweatdropped, gazing out at the vast ocean. It was a possibility I haven't considered before deciding on this vacation, I just thought I could reach it as long as I follow the map, which proves to not be the case at all
"But hey, that's no problem" I smiled "I'll just need to be a stowaway on some random ship heading there, or better yet, I can just steal one and use it myself!"
I know what you're thinking. I don't have a single clue as to how to control a ship. That's the reason why I'll have to eat a local captain and hopefully learn his job class.
If that doesn't work out, I'll just have to kidnap a sailor and force him to ride the ship to Menagerie. Simple!
My plan is plausible, given this part of the beach is a popular place for sailors and fisherman, judging from the amount of ships concentrating near it, ranging from small to large to extremely large vessel waiting at the dock
Indeed, if you can zoom on a particular spot in the distance, you'll see what looks like a clump of buildings faraway, large enough to be a small town and not just a common village. That is where they all gathered in one place
More targets means less security on an individual, which means there'll be one that is less likely to be guarded than the rest
In other words, as long as I knocked out all the crews who stays behind to guard it, no one will notice their ship getting out of this place until it's too late
And for what kind of ship I want, that'll have to depend. A cruiser is out of the question, same with the sailing boat. I'll have to settle with something as unappealing and stealthy as possible, preferably something that doesn't scream "Hey look at me, I'm a new sightseer at this place, please notice me"
If the circumstances demands it, at the very, very, very least, something that doesn't have black flags with the Jolly Roger symbol on it, because I don't want to increase my bounty more than it already is
But my worry can be put to rest as I have a closer look at the ships lining in the dock,
this looks more like a fishing town or a trading dock rather than a tourist spot from what I can see. The ships themselves are old and moldy, something which prioritized it's function rather than it's looks, so that means the majority of them are just harmless fishing boats
Yeah. The chances of me accidentally choosing a pirate ship is pretty low, there's no need to worry about it after all
New Quest Created!
Quest: Get yourself a ship, either buying or stealing one is fine
Extra: Get yourself a crew
Reward: 15,000 EXP, Sea Travel System Unlocked, Sea Combat System Unlocked, Navigation System Unlocked, ???
Either way, it will be easy for me
Grinning, I continued on the stone path which lead to the village
<><><><><><><><><><>
I stood grinning in front of the building, having transformed myself back into human when I entered the village to avoid suspicion
So, being the perfectly logical creature that I am, I have chose to visit the village's inns first and foremost, since that place seems to be the main attraction of this town
If reading several fictional books about pirates has given me any info, it's that sailors and seamen alike tends to gather to places with booze (and legal prostitutes, too. It tends to get lonely for men who's on the ocean all the time. Masturbating to dead fishes can only help so far)
Anyway, if I could single out someone in a dark alley and eat him, I'd surely be able to learn how to sail a ship by myself. After that it'd be easy work taking one and drive it to Menagerie
EZ PZ!
BANG!
In my anticipation, I may have slammed open the inn's door just a little bit too hard...and I immediately regretted what I did the moment after
The conversation in the bar stopped, and everyone's eyes turned toward me, some of them instinctively reaching for their guns in wariness at this new face in town
Like a thick curtain, a choking sense of paranoia descent on the air, threatening to burst at any given moment
...I drew their attention, didn't I?
My heartbeat went just a bit faster when the silence keep lingering on the air, the tension rising by the seconds. Is there any need for normal sailors to be this paranoid?
Shit. It doesn't matter. At this rate, somebody's gonna pull the trigger if I don't do anything soon
'Calm down, (Y/n), just pretend like it's nothing and continue on!' I internally screamed at myself. My body reluctantly obeyed my orders after a second of delay
Clack. Clack. Clack. Clack
Unbeknownst to (Y/n), his echoing footstep only serves to make the present people more paranoid than they already are
Everybody tensed up in worry as they gripped their weapons tighter. Beads of sweat begin rolling down their forehead
This town was supposed to be a hideout of pirates and criminals alike, where wanted men and women can hide themselves under the protection of the Governor. It's often disguised as a fishing village during inspection to avoid suspicion, but is actually an outlaw nest void of government officers
As long as they can pay their fees, those people can have a good time here without ever having to worry about being caught by the military and bounty hunters. These people ranged from Rogue Huntsmen and Huntresses to international terrorists. There's literally no way to categorize all the people present. As long as they're wanted, they're allowed here
Since it's location is secured deep within the mountain and only accessible by two secret entrances, hardly any criminal with a vast intelligence network can possess any knowledge about it. As such, everyone here knew each other's face like the back of their hands. The chances of a government spy being deployed here is too low to even bother
And yet, what is this? Just who is he?
This unknown boy has assert his authority over this place just by walking in it. Everybody's instinct is screaming at them to be wary of this stranger, that he's no ordinary man. It's as if he can easily kill everyone in this building without getting a stain on his clothes
Clack. Clack. Clack. Clack
Every step he took further increase their paranoia. Some of them begin trembling uncontrollably, while others froze in their spot, too afraid to even move.
It's as if even a single movement could get them killed
As for (Y/n), he simply isn't aware of their thought, being too lost in his own to even notice
And what is he thinking?
'...Why is my footstep so loud?' I thought 'Fucking boots, I know I should have just taken the sandals when looting those bandits!'
'But wait, to walk in the snow without having a boot would be suspicious, so I guess it can't be helped. It's still pretty annoying though'
Sighing, I looked around to see if there's any empty table for me to sit
Nope, all of them are full. Except for that one table at the back where two Faunus is sitting, but I would hate to interrupt them in their conversation
I inspect the people near me. Some of them shivered upon meeting my eyes, how rude
Although I can't exactly fault them about it. Even though I now look like a human, my eyes still retain that inhumane blood red color the Grimm is so well known for, and let's not mention the two black wolf ears underneath my hood that would make someone easily mistook me for a Fauna, those things are the worst
To the average human, such unnatural features like that would simply be unnerving
I hope none of them lose their common sense and started calling me a monster now
<><><><><><><><><><><>
"Hey Matsu, that guy's new here, isn't he?" His partner asked, pointing excitedly at the newcomer "I haven't seen him before"
Carmine Scarletina. A bunny Faunus with short brown hair which barely reached her shoulder and a kawaii face that goes in contrast to the rugged eyepatch on her left eye. She wears standard buccaneer clothes with a red sash on her hips, holstered on it are two empty pistols
Such an appearance tends to make people assume she's the less dangerous between the two of them, often time those assumptions are nothing less than wrong as they'd later find out
He didn't say anything, instead observing the stranger with barely-concealed curiosity
"Hey, Matsu" The bunny Faunus whispered again, this time she's smiling "If you and him were to fight, who do you think will win?"
He know the bunny is trying to rile him up, yet Matsuo Taurus didn't want to reprimand his partner for her disrespectful attitude
That's because he don't know the answer to that question, either
Usually he disregard those who are weaker than him, deeming them as unworthy of his attention. It may sound like an arrogant statement, but listening to the sound of the weak blabbering and making an idiot of themselves are just too much for him
That's why he don't know what to make of this boy. His movements reveal absolutely nothing about him
And by nothing, he means absolutely nothing
The newcomer seems like he's just taking a walk in a normal inn, with that quiet but commanding aura underlying his every gestures
There is no fear, no worry, not even hostility, only a supreme confidence of his abilities. He can take on any man in here and would easily come out of it victorious. Such is the quiet message that seems to be understood throughout the entire inn
That revelation make his blood boil with excitement. Bold, powerful, fearless. Matsuo can't believe he'd be lucky enough to encounter someone like this
"I don't know" He admitted, reining in his bloodlust "However, there's one thing I can say about it. He'll make for a good Captain with the amount of fear and respect his presence commanded"
Carmine laughed "I can't deny that, the guy made some of them shat their pants just by taking a few steps into the bar"
"Should we go talk to him?" He tilted his head in his direction
"And by talking you mean....?"
"I mean talking" he deadpanned "What do you think I'm going to do?"
"Matsuo Taurus, wanting to have a civilized conversation with someone instead of speaking to them with his blades?" She gasped "Are you sure you're not a brainwashed clone created by the SDC?"
He rolled his eyes "Shut up. There's just...something different about him. I just can't tell why, but I want to know what kind of person he is"
"Whatever~" She giggled "You'll have to wait though. Gangplank's not pleased with how the boy walked around his turf. I've seen that wanker eyeing him ever since he got here"
They both looked to the side, where a muscular man in a captain's outfit is glaring at the stranger, his fist clenching tightly in irritation
He slowly stood up, his form towering over the rest of the bar, and slowly made his way to the newcomer
Oh this is going to be good
"50 Lien to the guy killing Gangplank" He dared, placing several Lien cards on the table. Carmine looked at him amused
"50 Lien to the guy killing him with a bottle of Golden Randy"
"That's unlikely to happen"
"You'll never know"
"Your loss then" He shrugged
<><><><><><><><><><>
"A bottle of wine, please. Any brand is fine" I said as I took a seat next to the bar, since it's the only place with an empty seat
Everybody around me shifted uncomfortably, before moving to another seat farther away from my position
I know I'm new here, but is there any need to be that awkward around me?
*sigh* Even though I'm supposed to be grateful to be reincarnated and having a new chance in life, sometimes I have to questioned the guy who sent me here about his decision to make me a creature of darkness of all things
"H-here's your drink, sir"
"Thank you"
My thought were interrupted as the bartender nervously handed me the bottle. Instead of pouring it in the glass, I opened the cap and took a sip straight from it
There's no need for modesty. I can't get drunk anyway
Couldn't they keep me as a normal human and give me some normal power like Super Strength? I would have been beyond grateful and profusely thanked them if that were to happen, because it'd be amazing
I took a sip
But nooooo~Human are so lame~How about an edgy Grimm with an equally edgy ability and shitty luck instead? It would be much better yeah?
I took another sip
As it was, I'd do everything just to trade place with Jaune Arc (Motherfucking Jaune Arc of all people) just so I don't have to live in the wild, being hunted continuously by the military, and have Salem's attention on me 24/7 of the time. Even if I am weak as fuck, I'd be relatively safe until the Fall of Beacon, which will at least give me some times to prepare
Another sip was taken as I silently lamented my fate
You know you'd hit rock bottom when you get jealous of some weak-ass stupid blonde. That shows just how much you need to rethink all your life choices up until now
Well, at least if there's something I'm thankful to, it's that I'm not born into one of those universe. You know, the universe
The universe where I get reincarnated into the Rose household, where I then get neglected and abused by my family, then unlocked a godly power on my quest for revenge, then killed all of them saves for the female because I 'forgive them' and because 'they didn't mean to hurt me'. Yeah, fuck that
Seriously, an [Abused and Neglected Male Reader X RWBY Harem]? It's the lamest and most overused plotline to create a villain/dark protagonist. At least give them an original background and motivation or something. I don't want to open different stories only to find the same plot being used over again and again!
I shook my head to clear my thoughts
...Huh
Weird, am I getting drunk? My constitution was supposed to make this impossible, but why am I feeling tipsy?
I chugged the entire bottle's content down my mouth and called for another bottle of wine
Vaguely, I felt as if everybody in this inn is staring at me with an expression akin to...shock? Also, the feeling before has come back, and now I felt a little bit more light-headed than previously
"Also, bartender. How strong is this liquor?" I asked the guy, who looked at me with a fearful expression on his face
"....It's the strongest we have, sir" He meekly replied "Golden Randy. 99.2% alcohol, 5.2% Dust, and 1.2% Soviet Special Essence"
Hmm....At that moment my brains did an 'excuse me wtf' on the spot
Nin-ninety nine point two!? A-and I just drank an entire bottle like it's water? How am I still alive?
In my panic I took another chug to calm myself down. This works as my mind became clear again
"...Too weak" I muttered, depressed
Seriously. My human form is too weak, getting drunk by this. If it's my Wolf form I wouldn't have even be bothered by it
Unbeknownst to (Y/n), his comment is largely misinterpreted by everyone around him
"D-did he just called the legendary booze as too weak?" One woman whispered fearfully "This guy isn't human"
"He's definitely a demon" Another man agreed "His presence alone can tell you that. Never in my killing business have I met an assassin with such an air around him"
'"What air?"
"Killing intent" The man growled "This guy's definitely killed a lot people, perhaps more than every person in this room combined"
That statement chilled everyone to the bone
If only Salem could have been here, she would have burst into uncontrollable laughter over how her son managed to scare the shit out of humanity's most dangerous criminals without even doing anything to them
A snort behind them drew their attention. As everyone turned to the source of the noise, they all raised their eyebrows
"What's so funny, Gangplank?"
The bearded man smirked, his cigarette flickering lightly as he bit on it
"Weaklings. He's just a kid" He sneered "You're all just scaredy-cats. I bet you I can take him down in under 3 seconds"
There was silence around him, before the woman before slowly set up some money on the table
"100 Lien to you talking shit 3 seconds before getting killed by that brat"
"I'm in. If it's gonna be your funeral, at least I can make some quick buck out of it"
"I'm also in, extra 30 Lien on him getting killed with a bottle of wine"
"Count me in. Sorry Gangplank, buddy"
Gangplank bristled at the lack of trust his peers have for him. His fist began clenching tightly as he pushed his chair back, rising up slowly from his seat and started making his way toward the brat
'Nobody challenges my authority' he silently growled
<><><><><><><><><><><>
I felt a hand clasped on my shoulder. Looking up I saw a man with brown beard, a golden-trimmed tricorn hat on his head, and a brown coat draped over his shoulder
To the regular person, his physics would certainly be impressive, towering over 2 meters tall, casting shadows to the space in front of him. I absentmindedly noticed his leg is just a wooden prosthetic crudely fit in place
Oh yeah, this is definitely a Captain alright. Except for the parrot on his shoulder, this man is the stereotypical example of what many would imagine as the figure of someone who command a ship at his leisure
That means if i can somehow drag him outside and kill the guy, I'd be able to learn how to govern a ship all by myself
"Yes, can I help you with something?" I politely asked, pushing my inner thoughts aside
Little did I know just how much of a mistake I've done at that moment. All the problem until now seems to have stemmed from that single decision to talk to the bastard
<><><><><><><><><><><><>
Author's Note: Remember a few chapters back when you say there's no chances of you becoming Pirate King of Remnant? Well, not so sure now are we?
And yeah, you could tell my tendency to add OC to my stories are acting up again. Curse me!
