"I sometime wonder..."
"...If we haven't met the Boss that day, what would have happened?"
The red-hooded girl looked up toward her partner. Weiss Schnee stared apprehensively out the window of the Dust store they're standing in
Weiss and Ruby had grown a lot during the past five years working under the Don.
Ever since bringing them back to his mansion and introducing them to his other members, they have matured from the unsightly street rats into young girls they are now. Ruby and Weiss managed to compensate for the sudden growth in skill during that time
(Y/n) did not wait to start their training on becoming proper Mafioso. For the past years each of them receive different training regime from him and Cyan. They were taught to plan out raids, interrogation, and different styles of combat to make them useful in battles against Huntsman.
Over time their experience scaled, bringing them up the ranks of the Family. While the four of them are now still considered foot soldiers, he had assured them that the position of Capo is still closed due to their inexperience with matters regarding their Family.
Something which irritate Weiss greatly, of course.
As logical as the Don had sounded, things were simply different for the prideful girl. She prefers to think of herself as someone who is capable enough to serve directly under him. Weiss has the presence, the tactical mindset, and the skills to back her up, so such a claim may haven't been entirely unfounded
Lowering her weapon magazine, Ruby let out a sigh
"A lot, actually. For once, we wouldn't be sitting here. Wearing actual clothe. Eating actual food. Having an actual family. And...I'm not sure we would even be alive by now"
Her partner's eyes softened
"Right, right. I know I should be grateful for him about it, but still...he should have made me a Capo"
"You're 17, Weiss. Give it a few years and I'm sure he'll start paying attention to you" Ruby's eyes moved downward to the two barely noticable bump on her partner's chest "You still have a lot of space to grow, after all"
She smirked behind the magazine as the white-haired girl sputtered in indignition
"N-not like that, you dolt! I didn't want to climb the rank because I want to prove myself to him or anything. The Don's affection is never a priority!"
"Really?"
"Really!"
"Reeeeeaaaaaallllyyyy??" She drawled
Weiss sputtered as she turned away. Her face blushed a crimson red. Ruby's chuckle further increasing her embarrassment
She slowly calmed down upon seeing the mob of men gathered outside. Men clad in black vest, red shade. Leading them on the front was a familiar thief with orange hair and his white coat
The jovial mood from before was gone, replaced by a more serious atmosphere between the two
"That's our guy"

"Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a Dust shop open this late?"
Roman scowled and crushed the cigar in his hand, putting the shopkeeper's plea to the side. Ash fell to the ground as he inhaled the last of the smoke, before opening his eye.
"We're not here for the money. You know what we want?" He leaned in closer, scowling menacingly "Here's a hint" A suitcase was placed on the register "Crystals. Burn. Uncut. Now"
Standard robbery. Grab and run. The police shift had just ended. The van's already set up from behind the shop. His men are all hired from Junior so there's no way to trace them back to him. The preparation are down to the inch of their nails. So flawless that had he been a more provocative Roman would have thought
"What's the worst thing that can go wrong?"
But he is no such individual. No, no, no. It's always in a wiseman's book not to mess with the lovely lady that is Fate. Anyone else who tried to do that is either an idiot or they have balls of steel, and to that they have his respect
Now, the only thing that he isn't so sure of is the place they're going to operate this time
'Get on their turf. She said. Nothing will happen. She say'
Motherfucking Cinder and her motherfucking plans
It's obvious from the moment he met her that this woman does not know about the inner working of Vale's crime world. Unlike the unruly bunch in Mistral, they are much more organized in their activities. Harder to sneak past unnoticed. Larger risk if detected. And one hell of a consequence if get caught snitching
He'd seen what the Five Families of Vale can do at the peak of their power. More so the (L/n)'s when they showed their authority on the more upstart gangs who intruded on their territory
Over 80 bodies were discovered that day. The rest were presumed missing or found in pieces scattered all over the district as a warning to any future opposition.
And now he's in their home. Let's just say he's had some first hand experience as to just how dangerous these parts of the city are
"Hey, hurry up you meat bags!" He snapped at the bumbling henchmen. Worthy of every cent his ass "Load the Dust quickly unless you want to end up like the last men before you. It ain't gonna be pretty"
He heard the sound of music nearby. Great, probably another unseen witness. He sent one of his men to check out
"Hey kids!" His voice echoed from the back of the store "Put your hands in the air!"
Some shuffling sound can be heard. Roman's eyes twitched when he realized it was the sound of a magazine turning its page
"Are you...robbing us?"
"I think he is, Ruby"
"Ooohhhhhh..."
There was the sound sharp metal whistling through the air, before something wet landed near his shoes
It was the severed head of his goon
From the back shelves walked out two girls. One with white hair tugged in a ponytail on one side of her head, wearing a white vest with blue collar and a rapier sheathed by her side. The other is a younger-looking girl with a bloody scythe slung over her shoulder
"Well, well. To think you would show up here after that failure to the Boss" Weiss let out a scoff "Any last words before we skewer you from head to toe?"
The thief's eyes flickered to the severed head underneath him and subtly gulped
He don't see these kids in the Family the last time he was here. But judging from the casual manner they've just taken down his men, the gals ain't fucking around
"Red, White. A pleasure to meet you" Roman gestured toward the two of them as his goon rushed forward "I would have normally pay a fellow gangster some greeting, but I'm tight on schedule tonight, so, adios"
He ran to the balcony using all his speed.
Because fuck that, he's a thief...not a goddamn combat monster
Now behind with approximately twenty men surrounding them, Ruby grinned. Weiss settled her hand on Myrtenaster
"Move" She said frostily, causing the men to freeze up "Lucky for you, I am a generous person and will be willing to forgive this offense if you get yourself out of my way as soon as possible"
"Or what?" One of them sneered "You are only two little girls with a weapon a few years too early to wield, who do you think you are to order us like that? The mafia?"
His comrade burst into laughter
Ruby shifted her feet in nervousness. Normally she's fine with people calling her little considering her age and appearance, so she doesn't react too much to it
Her partner, on the other hand....
"So you've chosen death"
The next moment, Weiss's rapier ripped through his throat, causing the man's laughter to descend into coughing as he choked on the blade. With a brandish of her wrist, the man's head was cleanly severed from his neck
Ruby shot forward, reaping another three heads with a swing of her scythe. She planted her feet on the ground and used the recoil to spin Crescent Rose upward, splitting another goon in half. Another tried to rush her, but found a boot slammed into his face and made him flew back, courtesy by Weiss
The white-haired girl whipped the cylinder on her sword to a pale blue and stabbed it into the ground, summoning forth waves of freezing ice that encapsulated the surrounding men
"I'll take care of them" She said dismissively "You go after Torchwick"
Her partner nodded and used her Semblance to sped up the side of the building. Rose petals scattered in the air as she landed, where she came face to face with Roman just standing near the edge of the rooftop
"You are Ruby" The man turned around and regarded her cautiously "Ruby. Silver eyes, wield a scythe, leaving behind petals of rose in the wake of her victim. Then that means the other one is Weiss. I never thought I'd had the honor of meeting such names from the Underworld"
"Well you should have. You're basically intruding upon our territory, stealing from our men, and most important of all not paying your due tribute to the Don"
The scythe was twirled between her hands as Ruby slammed it down on the ground, the tip pointing at him as she pulled back the bolt of her sniper rifle, ready to give the shot
"It is only thanks to his help years ago that you managed to make such a big name for yourself. Now you're going to express your gratitude to your benefactor by eating off on his generosity?"
"You don't know what you're talking about. I would never betray the Boss"
Roman said harshly, subtly inching his cane forward
"What a disgusting lie" She spat, pulling the trigger "Then go to hell!"
The thief managed to blast off the ground udnerneath her with a fire Dust-enhanced bullet. Pumping his body with Aura, he dodged to the side just as the sniper bullet whizzed by his head
Flipping back and landing on his feet, Roman tipped his hat to the girl and jumped backward into the street below...
...Right into the waiting cockpit of the jet Bullhead under him
<><><><><><><>
A few blocks away, another confrontation was happening
(Y/n) ducked as the debris flew over his head, nearly decapitating him had he been a moment later
"I can assure you, miss. I have no idea who the Boss you're talking about is"
Glynda Goodwitch narrowed her eyes at the man. Huffing, she formed another line of crystalized projectiles and launched them at him
"It would not do to go with such blatant lies, Don. Your appearance and weapon of choice matched that with the crime lord wanted across all four Kingdoms. As a Huntress, I have the duty to take you in for questioning, so please comply in peace"
Originally she was going to be sent to deal with a minor disturbance at a downtown Dust shop. A robbery apparently. But before she can reach ehr destination, command caught sight of another individual walking down the street with a bag of cookies and magazines in his hand, confirmed to be the head of the Mafia that's been plaguing this city for years
Between a wanted criminal and an even bigger wanted criminal, there's hardly a choice for her. So Glynda was forced to confront him while another Huntsman was sent after the situation at Dust n' Dawn
"I'm honest! I'm just here to pick up my daughters"
"Daughters?"
"Yeah. Ruby and Weiss, about this tall. One with black hair and red-black outfit, the other with snow white hair, blue eys, and a scar running down her eyes. We went to downtown Vale for the weekend, but some business came up and I have to leave them there for some time" He held out the cookies "This is my gifts for them. You want some?"
Glynda's hand that is holding the riding crop faltered. The revelation did make her paused somewhat
Is that it? Could he just be here to have a relaxing weekend night with his daughters?
Did she somehow get the wrong man? But, the description matched...
"You look tense, Mrs Huntress. Is something the matter?" He tilted his head, confused at the woman's action
She quinted her eyes suspiciously. Now that she has a second look at him...the man in front of her...
...is completely average
"Oh thank you" (Y/n) sighed in relief as the witch lowered her weapon "Finally someone who would listen. For the past few months people would always mistake me for the Boss or something. Heard he's a part of the larger gang down town, but never know how he look...probably the glasses that make the change"
"You mean you've never heard of the Don's reputation?"
"Of course. I'm an upstanding citizen of Vale. There's no way I would muddy myself with shady business like that, you know?" The man huffed "What kind of man do you take me for?"
"Well, I'm sorry for the misunderstanding sir-"
"No need, miss Huntress. I understand your job is a difficult one and sometime you just felt stressed out" He looked around and sighed
"You know what? Maybe this can be easily solved between us. Wouldn't it be better if we pretend like our conversation never happened, no?"
"I - that's a good idea"
"I'm glad you think so. Now please just stand there while I erase the last 60 seconds from existence"
"Wha-"
He snapped his finger
"-t?"
Glynda blinked
She gazed at structure around her, at the damage from her surrounding, then look back at her riding crop already halfway rising up to...do something
...What was she supposed to do again?
<><><><><><><><><>
When Weiss dashed up to the rooftop, Ruby was already fighting with someone else other than Torchwick. A woman wearing a Dust-infused dress with black raven hair and amber eyes glowing in the darkness
For the purpose of convenience, Weiss will name her "Annoyance no.21". It's so much frustrating when you've done your part of the mission, only to see another obstacle on your way to killing a rat from the Family
Ruby fired several sniping shot which was easily deflected by the woman. She in turn launched a storm of flame at the red-haired girl.
Narrowing her eyes, Weiss rushed past Ruby and blocked it with an ice wall she summoned. The hissing sound of ice being burned by the blazing heat from her attack sounded out
"You dolt. Why would you waste your Dust bullets on someone who is obviously a user of Dust manipulation?" She hissed, blue eyes nearly settled into a glare as Ruby simply offered a sheepish grin in response
Weiss was forced to dodge as a column burst off from the ground, separating the two of them. Their attention was turned back to the anonymous woman on the jet
"Any plan for this bitch, Weiss?"
"....White Rose tactic number 7. On my signal"
"That's my favorite!"
Ruby could already feel her scythe trembling in excitement at the potential destruction that is about to happen. But that might just be her hand shaking from anticipation
Weiss sighed and brought out a Dust vial. Crushing it in her palm, the girl formed a wall of ice crystals with a wave of her hand that shot at the jet. In reponse, a wall of flame sprung up and rapidly repelled the projectiles with ease
They traded more crack shots, the impact of which created shockwaves that pushed back the surrounding objects around them
'It seems she's just like me who directly utilized Dust in combat. But instead of Ice, hers is Fire'
Weiss's eyes narrowed as the spotted as the woman reached for the third vial behind her. After that intense ranged dual, even she had lost about 8 vials herself
'She use far less Dust than I. Reduced consumption through higher proficiency? No, the math doesn't match up. Probably had her Semblance helping with that'
She smirked and release a shot that shattered the Dust vial, making the woman cursed. With a twitch of her finger, an ice pillar shot up and stabbed itself into the Bullhead, stopping it from ascending to the sky
Weiss used her Semblance and conjured several Glyphs that connected from Ruby's position straight to the pillar.
"Ruby. Would you kindly?"
Said girl's grin widened substantially upon the signal as she used her Semblance to dash forward. Petals scattered through the air. Her speed, combined with the acceleration provided by her partner allow the young Rose to double up the sound barrier for a split moment
"Get..."
But a split moment is enough for her to bring her scythe downward in a powerful sweep
"...Dunked on!"
The air rippled, creating the illusion of the sky shattering under her slash. A slash travelling at speed so high they easily cut through metal and bisected them in half
Two halves of the ship crashed to the ground. A moment later, they exploded in a shower of fiery sparks and metallic shrapnels to which she easily shielded herself from
Landing on the ground, Ruby transformed her scythe to its hidden form and approached the downed airship. Her eyes narrowed
"What's the matter?"
"...They're gone"
Ruby kicked up the burning rubble. Underneath there was only a bowler hat and a paper with a smiley face on it
Somehow, during that one small lapse of time, Roman had managed to take his accomplive and escape from there using his Semblance
"Fuck" Weiss facepalmed "I should have just shot him from the cockpit before. That would have made things easier"
Ruby tried to console her
"Well, at least things can't get worse, right?"
But she chose the wrong words
"Ruby! Weiss!" (Y/n) walked around the corner with a bag of cookies in his hand "I'm sorry. The business took longer than usual, but as compensation I've bought you some chocolate cookies from your favorite store on my way back-"
He stopped upon witnessing the destroyed airship, the burning street, and his two Family members standing among the wreckage covered in blood
"You're grounded"
The both of them winced
<><><><><><><><><>
"Papa, it was a misunderstanding!"
"Calling me that won't make me change my mind, Weiss"
"Daddy, I swear it's not what it looks like!"
"The same can be said to you, Rubes"
Looking through the live feed of the public camera, Ozpin takes a sip of his coffee
"Interesting" He mumbled

Author's Note: You don't know how much I struggled with writing Ruby and Weiss in this chapter XD
Each girls have their own quirks and personalities that I have to keep in mind. The fact that I have them join a crime syndicate certainly change things a bit, don't they?
