Within the Moonlit world, they are known as the Tohsaka's
A family known for their wealth, spiritual lands, and their uses of jewel magecraft not unlike a certain house of Edefelt. But obviously, unlike those bloodthirsty mercenaries, they are far more sophisticated in their profession
They are one of the big three that invented the concept of the Holy Grail War, a conflict between seven Magus and companion Spirits to obtain their ultimate prize, The Holy Grail. It is also known as the sacred cup that possesses the ability to grant any wish to the winner through the actualization of their desires
And of course, that desire is what every existing Magus, whether they be average or nobles one, had set their entire lives to re-enact: True Magic. The pinnacle of Mysteries. Miracles in physical form. Or in this case, The Third Magic, Materialization of the Soul
He know it is his duty to cut unnecessary expenses and invest in things more valuable to him. It was the only way to further Tokiomi's progress in Magecraft. To one day stand at the top and peer at those below him as a taunt for their effort
To that end, this offer Zouken Matou had made is like a blessing to him
Just three days ago, the man approached him during the convention at the Clock Tower with a proposal. In exchange for their supports and past favors, the old man want one of his child to be adopted into the family and fill the position for the future head of the Matou clan
Isn't that wonderful?
What more could he ask for? Tokiomi got someone to take care of his daughter, at the same time he got to repay their family debts with such a small price. It would be easy to get Sakua to agree to this
"I refuse"
Or this was supposed to be easy. Tokiomi sighed
The girl stood defiantly in front of him, her arms crossed, accentuated by the stubborn look in her eyes that creates an unpassable wall to her father's command.
In the following days that Magus left his service. Everything in the household hasn't been the same as before
He knew he should have fired that man the moment he saw him. A Third-rated Magus, who defied his order and tampered with his daughter's education? Unacceptable
"Sakura, please rethink your answer. Zouken-san here had kindly offered to train you as the heir to his family. He can give you resources in your magecraft research, things we can't afford for you"
Things that he won't provide for her
The Matou patriarch offered her a friendly wave and a crooked smile. His wrinkled visage radiates warmth like that of a grandfatherly figure greeting his granddaughter
Sakura gave him the middle finger
Aoi gasped. Tokiomi winced as his wife stood up and smacked her daughter across the face.
The little girl temporarily flinched in shock, but as a testament to (Y/n)'s physical training, her face showed no reaction to the slap of a non-Magus woman who couldn't use Reinforcement on herself
As she got dragged by hand out of the room, the Tohsaka patriarch sighed in exasperation
"I'm sorry, Matou-san. That was rude of my daughter" Tokiomi apologetically said as he took a sip of his tea "Normally she wasn't this aggressive in her behavior. Perhaps the stress got to her"
"Oh, that's quite alright. I can imagine the mental strain placed upon such a young, impressionable girl at my proposal" He spoke huskily "She needs time, and I'll give it to her. Is three days alright for you?"
"That would be plenty of time needed"
It will be a big loss for him. Tokiomi mused. No, that will not do. Some bits of convincing should be used for his stubborn daughter
Sakura had always been the meek and shy one of the siblings. Always seeking his approval. Always trying her best to appease her family. Perhaps he could use that to his advantage
If he can made her see how big of a favor she'd do for her family, she'd listened. For her sister. For her mother. For her father. That girl will know what's best for both of them. It won't hurt to manipulate her just a bit
Nothing could go wrong. Tokiomi assured himself with a confident smile. Sakura loves him. Like a good daughter, she'll understand
"Cheers" The man raised his glass of wine, mirrored by Zouken "To a fair and successful Heaven's Feel. May the Third Magic be blessed upon the winner"
Underneath her disguise, Mercury's, now Zouken Matou's face temporarily blanked
One might be be thinking how it is that she'd come to offer the Tohsaka matriarch this deal
To keep the explanation short, the familiar had used the past few days under her new identity to utilize every aspect of Zouken to her advantage.
She purged the Matou household of unnecessary members, reducing unnecessary waste. She made deals that would benefit their family's magecraft, strengthen her relationship with other houses through intel, and extending the deal to the Tohsaka house to adopt one of them for nurturing
That served two purposes. One, getting a proper heir (because the current one, Shinji Matou, was incompatible) will ensure the future of their family, a sound move if she were to permanently keep this disguise until the start of the Grail War. Two, economically she was aware of Tohsaka's situation, and an offer disguised as a payment of debt will do the job nicely. It's not like he'll be surviving the war anyway
Moreover, she knows taking in one of them would make her Master "happy". As long as he is "happy", she is content
I things went smoothly, an estimation of two months will be needed before the girl can be qualified for the position of a proper Matou. That means the integration of the family's foundation. Further study of advanced techniques. Combination of pre-establish principals to ensure optimal magical prowess
Mercury smiled, her ears picking up the sound of bickering from outside
Conflicts come from discord. Discord starts from one's desire to change. Without change, one gets stuck in stagnation.
Like her name, Sakura will either bloom with the Matou, or she will wilt with the Tohsaka
"If you'll excuse me. I have some important matter that needs attending" Getting from her seat, the disguised familiar nodded toward her fellow family head "A good morning to you, Tokiomi"
Gracefully walking out of the manor and escorted to the path outside, Mercury's face shifted into its perfectly blank mask once more
She took out a single voucher from her pocket, eyes shining with excitement as she gazed upon it
Gift Voucher
Ichiraku Ramen store (Misaki Central Shopping Centre)
Discount: 30% for all food and beverage ordered before the expiration time
<><><><><><><><>
TYPE-Jupiter is in a dilemma
"So" The familiar stated, her voice neutral as a shadow flashed across her youthful face "You mean to tell me this ramen package costs 15 yen instead of the 10 you promised?"
Passerbys halted in their steps if only to look at the sight in front of their eyes. It is not the spectacle nor the argument that held their unwavering attention, but rather the frowning woman leaning over the counter as she stood with the most serious expression on her face
A mundane person would say that she's beautiful. Unblemished skin, to which intertwining yellowish-orange and white strands of hair curled around. She possesses kind brown eyes, which are wide open as she tilted her head to the side
A perceptive person would say she's too beautiful. Despite her seemingly normal appearance, no flaws could be found on her. From even the wrinkles on her clothes, to each action she made, to the posture, to even the way she smiled. It was unnaturally perfect
But those of the Moonlit world will have already ran away in reckless abandon, an expression of terror on their faces. For they know at an instinctive level just how much of a monster this thing is
"That's correct, ma'am"
"But that's not possible!" She protested, fishing out a paper card from her wallet and showed it to him "Here's the voucher you handed me just last week. You told me it can still be used today!"
"Ma'am, those vouchers expire just two days ago"
She gaped
Without mercy, without hesitation, that one statement was delivered in such a brutal way that TYPE-Jupiter felt dazed from the impact
She glanced down at the voucher. It said "Thursday". Following the calendar, isn't today supposed to be the last day before expiration? If so, then the digital calendar hung on the wall displaying the date as "Saturday" was clearly lying
Is this...a scam?
The situation quickly shook her out of her stupor. Shocked into sanity, the alien existence narrowed her eyes
Is this it? Is this all humanity had amounted to?
Thousands- no, millions of years to evolve and develop, only to slowly drown in mortal sins. A specie who strayed from the natural order of the world, defying Gaia itself at their peak, only do be divided in the face of conflict. The specie that her Master had put his faith in has now fallen so low
Lies. Betrayal. Deceit!
The familiar's fist shook with an emotion unfelt of before. Anger. Cold, shimmering rage, a want to use her power and wipe out all its inhabitant from existence, for her faith for them had run out
Human has become far too arrogant in their own capabilities, vastly unaware of the primordial forces outside their comprehension that could erase their existence like they would a faulty sketch. Perhaps a demonstration will remind them of their place
Start with the destruction of the Asian continent. Oh how she will relish their scream as Heaven razed and Hell is torn opened on this country...
Jupiter slowly raised her hand from under the counter...
"But, since the manager isn't here. I think we can make an exception for you" The employee accepted her 10 yen and gave her the Ramen package with a smile "Have a nice day, customer-san"
...She slowly lowered her hand
Perhaps she has been wrong
Human isn't so bad after all!
As she happily skipped out of the mall with the shopping bag in hand. Jupiter's eyes discerned something from the moving crowd. A flash of green hair, unnoticeable, plain outfit consisting of a T-shirt and baggy jeans. Yet, the subtle sense of power behind that form could not be mistaken
"Heyaaaa, Mercury!"
Heedless of the girl's cheerful voice, the green-haired Type started walking faster. Suppressed memories of when she was still Mercury's Ultimate One began surfacing back
As a child, she had always been teased and bullied by her sisters. And now faced with positively the most annoying one among them, a primordial sense of fear took root in her mind
"Nope nope nope nope nope nope"
Should she teleport? There's a rule against using supernatural abilities in public but fuck it. She's going to teleport. Jupiter cannot detect presence as well as the others, so she can hide away in Antarctica for some time
"My dear, lovely sister. Where could you be going?"
Space itself distorted as Jupiter announced her presence next to her. The girl's face was calm, as though she didn't just stroll from one side of the mall to the other in the span of a millisecond
"...I didn't expect to see you here"
"Neither did I" Jupiter exclaimed in excitement as she pulled Mercury in, lips grazing against her cheek in a kiss "You've become a familiar"
It wasn't hard to figure out. Her humane appearance indicate she had been influenced by outside magic, forcing her to take in a new form so as not to damage Gaia's reality with her presence
"Just like you" She pulled her hood on and hummed "I take it that the others had been taken in as well?"
"Yeah, girl! The homie's all in on this!"
There are only three humans at this point in time who could fight against the TYPEs. Of the three, only one is capable of defeating multiples of them at once
"And your Master is an average Magus?"
"Well duh" She rolled her eyes
"...Come, we have a lot of things to catch up" Mercury pulled her sister into a nearby shop. Ichiraku's ramen. Coincidentally where she'd just bought the dried package from "I have this voucher from Master the last time we met, we should be able to get a discount of up to 30% for any products. A package of ramen would only cost about 10 yen instead of the usual 15"
"Sis, those vouchers expired two days ago" She shrugged "At least, that's what they told me"
Mercury's eyes dimmed. She looked at the date on her voucher, then recalled the temporal clock inside her head for the accurate measurement
"But today was supposed to be Thursday. Is this...a scam?"
Her non-existent faith in humanity crumbled
<><><><><><><><><>
"So you took over the Matou house per Master's command. Is planning on taking in the Tohsaka's younger daughter as your heir. And now you're telling me you're going to participate in a war made by Magi to attain something the Master already have?"
Mercury nodded, but said nothing else as the familiar was too busy attacking her lunch to care.
It turns out their service wasn't a scam. Someone merely accelerates the flow of time to their convenience, which points out the shift in the timeline. As they are TYPEs. They are naturally immune to it
In the end, she decided to use hypnotism on the employee so they could have Ramen for free
"How much progress have you made?"
"I would say not much. Most of my time was dedicated to researching the family craft and slightly expand our influence within the Clock Tower" Having finished devouring the ramen, she moved on to the stack of burgers beside them.
"That's too slow. If it was me, I would have conquered the Clock Tower long ago" She thought about it, before chuckling "No, that would be too easy. "
Again with the king's mindset. Mercury really wish their eldest sister would be more humble and less brash in her decision
"There's a need for secrecy after all. Master had instructed me clearly to play the disguise of Zouken Matou, and I intend to do that part perfectly" She stood up
Mercury extended her arm out, while the other settled on her chest in a classic Opera pose. It would have looked somewhat theatrical if it wasn't for the food crumps on her face
"Imitation is an art. It should be in one's mind as an actor not to play their role, but become one with it" She smiled passionately "Their personality. Their ambition. Devour them all. They are you. You are them. The roles we play are like the masks we don. One should be ready to sacrifice things to suit the character they're supposed to be. Death is meaningless for an actor!"
"You are having fun doing this, aren't you?"
"Perhaps"
Mercury eyed the hamburger in her hand, before taking another small bite
"Regardless, there's still one of us who hasn't been turned into a familiar yet. Brunestud"
Crimson Moon Brunestud, or TYPE-Moon, is also an Ultimate One that governed an aspect of the universe. Her Heavenly body is the moon that now hung above Gaia, though that had not always been the case.
Despite possessing a TYPE-Arm, [Real of the World], thus qualifying her as one of them, Brunestud cannot be called "complete". She is a parasitic creature that feeds on Anti-Ether to maintain her existence. Statistic-wise, she can be considered the second weakest of them all after Pluto
No wonder why she got defeated by that Zelretch
"As of the moment, considering his neutral stance on Dead Apostles, I don't think the Master is interested in reviving her" She chewed on the burger "He already has eight of us as his familiar, after all"
"You have no knowledge about men and their harem desires, don't you?" At her sister's blank look, Jupiter sighed "Think about it this way. It won't hurt to secure her as one if it turns out wrong, right? An extra helping hand is always appreciated"
"I see, and since she'd already built a supernatural empire here on Gaia's body, her resource can be used to further our progress in integrating ourselves here"
She nodded "Despite seemingly being air-headed at times, I've forgotten how much of a schemer you could be, Jupiter"
"Uh...yeah..that's right...it's totally what I meant..."
<><><><><><><><><>
The dream shattered. Reality formed above me
Anyway, you may be wondering what happened when I exited the Root after touching it last night..or her...or it. Let's just refer to her as Void Shiki. So you may be wondering what happened after I touched Void Shiki last night
We...talked about things...and do things. By the end of it, my [Affection of the Root] went up to A++ while we gain a mutual understanding of each other
But nothing happened aside from that. She let me go. On my part, I'm still just an average human at the core, only with an additional Magic woven into my existence by the Root itself
Although...
Nah, I'm sure it isn't anything important
Back to the matter. After learning the Fifth Magic, I realized that I can now do a lot more things than before, Like, a lot
[Causality Manipulation], for one thing, allows me to separate cause from effect and initiate the process of transition between them. I can decide "when", "where" and "how" something will happen regardless of the "why", as long as the events I'm manipulating follows the conventional rules of the Multiverse
So I decided to make it so that today was Saturday instead of Thursday. Extra time for me to sleep and experiment more with my powers
I then decided to erase my Math teacher out of existence, because he's a bastard who likes to torture his students
"Now that I'm awake" I activated my Magic, at the same time opening my class note "Let's see how much I can break reality this time"
[I have 3 bars of Fae metal beside me]
I snapped my finger.
There was a "thud" as several heavy blocks of the metal dropped to my left. Their silvery shines radiates an otherworldly shine on the surface of the alloy, signifying to a material that could absorb tremendous impact as well as containing mystical energy far beyond divine limits of the modern age
It was, after all, the very same metal that forged Excalibur. Figured it would be somewhat expensive looking
They didn't seem to be taken from my Gates of Babylon, nor were they created. They seem to have just always been there. I waited for a moment. The Fae metal did not fade away, which means the World itself accepts the irregularity in time, just like The First Magic to Gradation Air
So limited, yet simultaneous alteration of the past, present, and future within a single timeline is possible. Check.
I threw the Divine Metal in the trash can, then continued on with my research. My pen writing the start of the essay
"Let's try something else"
[Gravity does not exist within a 5 meters radius of me]
I watched in mild interest as the notes I held began floating up, as are the other objects cluttering about me now suspended up in the air in zero gravity. Nodding to myself, I scribbled into a nearby memo
"Alright, stop it Gravity"
Gravity returned. All at once, the floating objects all clattered to the ground. I could only sigh as the inkpot dropped on my head, splattering black ink all over my hair
The ability to ignore, as well as reversing certain concepts and physical properties within a finite amount of distance. Further testing needed to be done. But it's a temporary check
Every change or resulting influences are also automatically corrected by the World the moment I uttered the command
"The nullification of alterations made to reality. Check"
The past does not exist. The present does not exist. The future does not exist. Time moves in an inconsistent motion of stagnation instances. But since motion and transference of energy cannot exist without time, on an infinitesimal scale we could say time is not real
Just as it was finite, reality being in motion is but an illusion. A Phantasm I can alter to my desire
But how do you dispel an illusion if it was real?
[(Y/n) (L/n)'s current existence is only a dream of his in the real world]
Command Code not recognized. Please try again
[(Y/n) (L/n) is not the user of the Zeroth Magic]
Command Code not recognized. Please try again
[Thienlibra's stories suck]
Fuck yo- Command Code not recognized. Please try again
The answer: You can't. There exist absolute truth that can not be overwritten even by True Magic themselves
I put my notebook down
It would seem my hypothesis was correct. [Fourth Wall Manipulation] is not a viable power of this magic. With that said, [Self-Origin Modification] and [Fate Manipulation] are out of the question since they're obvious hacks. That or maybe I cannot utilize its true potential without Root's expressed permission
Furthermore, I cannot exert its true power unless some conditions can be cleared.
One. The result I created must not contradict with another result established by me in that same instance
If this law is violated, I must erase one of the choices so the other can proceed. If I chose not to, they will both be nullified, as two possibilities cannot exist in the same timeline
Two, an event does not need a reason to happen should I wish it. But that will be a lie
A lie holds considerably less power than the truth. Therefore, a basic foundation should be established for an absolute result
It is exploitable though. One only needs a reason, not a legitimate one. So I can just say "You are dead because the toaster was broken this morning" and it will count as the truth
Three, if time were to be deleted, all changes and possibilities made in that set period will be nullified
It's simple. The "why" doesn't matter. but if the "what" and "when" was not there, the created possibility cannot manifest into reality
I felt like I'm possessing King Crimson with the whole causality shit going on. Too bad I don't have a Stand
It's okay, (Y/n). Stands are useless. Who needs a Stand anyway? It's not like I'm jealous because I can't have a Stand or something
I focused on stabilizing my power. For after a while of propping I've finally deciphered the nature of this Magic and the extension of its abilities
Unlike that Emiya who I'm sure will be a pain in the future, I am a selfish person. I was not born as a shield to protect, nor a sword to defend. My desires remain mundane. But they are true. To accept people for who they are and things for what it is, that's who I am
And that is the key to using this Magic. Truth is its essence, but so in lies deception
I began chanting. As I did so, reality shook. Cracks formed in the fabric of my room, the four-dimensional space too fragile to contain the mana of my average self
But I forced them down. Clamping on their shattering boundary, I forcefully close them up. And thus, the space surrounding me was thrumming with barely-contained power, ready to burst open at a moment's notice
"I am the eye of the snake"
Reality is naught but a Dream
"I am the dragon of the tree"
Illusions of a never-ending Utopia
"I am the never-ending, the devouring cycle"
"I am a Lie turned Truth"
"Thus, my words are naught but lies"
"Yet, even lies can become truths"
"My words ring hollow,"
"but strike deeper than swords."
"I do not pray, but claim Truth,"
"thus as I speak-[Believe-Accept-Obey]"
I exhaled, the final command left my lips in a whisper
At that moment in time, (Y/n) (L/n) ceased becoming (Y/n) (L/n)
<><><><><><><><>
"So that is your choice..." Void Shiki muttered
The flower landed upon her palm as she gently grasped around it, delicate fingers touching upon the soft petals, before slowly plucking them off, one by one
"There is no concept of Right and Wrong. Such things are meaningless" She hummed "I cannot understand them. How people believe in things they can't comprehend. Faith, they call it. With faith, lies can be the truth, and truth can be lies. Never they said it can be both, or neither"
She should have anticipated such a course of events
He lied to himself. He rejected what he had become. He denied the truth. Thus, the truth becomes a lie. Causality reverses itself because it can only be the truth when it is absolutely right. But He is Absolution. He stated it to be wrong because it is wrong, so it must be wrong, and therefore it is a lie
(Y/n) (L/n) is not (Y/n) (L/n), just like the average Magus himself is not the amalgamation of primordial power that formed him. Infinity is different from Eternity, thus they are separated
Due to this contradiction, the part of him that was overwritten by the Root will be locked away, while the more humane part remains due to them being the original "him". In total, the boy's power doesn't decrease, but he now has more control over them due to him being more...him... than before
A form of self-hypnosis. A denial of nothingness befitting of a Magician
She closed her eyes, a smile graced her lips. It was of a mischievous kind
"If you had chosen so...who am I to say to judge?"
Karma always has a means to those who mess with Fate. It's not a lesson he'll be learning soon
<><><><><><><>
CHALDEA ALTERNATIVE RECORD
(Y/n) (L/n) thought he could cheat Fate
He thought he could comprehend the primordial driving force of the universe. The gears that kept it running. The cogwheels that spun eternally in the maintenance of their own existence. He thought himself an architect rather than a builder
Well, he definitely did. (Y/n) successfully cheated Fate by exploiting the loophole in the established laws. By separating "what is" and "what isn't", he pulled a bamboozle on Magic itself
But then again, it's (Y/n), not me
Again. That would be wrong. I'm (Y/n). (Y/n) is me. But we're not the same
He is [Eternity]. The encompassing timelessness of all creations. Never beginning. Neither ending. The dusk that never be, nor the dawn that never was. He is simply...is. One cannot describe his nature unless they want to speak of the genesis and the end in the same sentence
Eternity is usually the one who'd talk to himself all the time. With that said, half the stupid decisions were made by him as he'd try to do some ridiculous things like blasting some school bullies off with freaking Ea of all things
I am [Infinity]. Limitless is my nature. I cannot be measured. I cannot be affected by changes. I embodied everything that was, is, will be, and in between. I am the more average one among us if you are asking
Right now, I found myself in the most unusual of predicament
Because...as you know, I am an entity that exists outside of time and space. Yet without Eternity, I become an existence that is stuck in the flow of time with no ways to turn back to the present
As the flow of time rushed through me. I could sense events across different timeline becoming reality just by gazing at them. The ripples created by myself traversing far and wide, showing vague mirrors of a Kaleidoscope, each representing different possibilities of what I could become
In one reality, I was teaching a young Artoria Pendragon how to wield her first sword. Atop the grassy hill, a woman clad in white robe smiled as us
In another, I was fighting side-by-side with Jeanne D'Arc on the siege of Orleans. My blade that shone with promised victory. Her banner that signifies the will of God
Another showed the battle to the Tokugawa shogunate, with me leading the Shinsengumi and their Captains into battle. Our will shine and die with valor, leaving trails of carnage in our wake
In yet another distant one. And another one. Each timeline of me speaking to different legendary figures in mythology, and of them referring to me as their Mentor. Friend. Companion. Brother. And many more
With a startling motion, I realized that the things I'm witnessing are not just possibilities. They are the glimpses of my future, of me interacting with those who one day will become Heroic Spirits.
Which means they are no alternate possibilities from other universes. They come from the same timeline, and my dumbass just has to go and mingle myself with them!
The revelation is enough to elicit a few curses from me
The space around me distorted, signifying the arrival of my destination through the travel in time. As the blue sky split apart from my descent, only one thought surfaced from my mind
Damn that (Y/n)! Damn my past self!
Someone just kill him for his stupidity already!
