When I woke up in this world, the first thing my senses picked up is the sound of roaring thunder
I gazed at my surrounding. Around me were nothing but an endless expanse covered by heavy rain, blocking my vision the farther it goes
But that's not the only thing there
Lightning flashed, allowing me to take a glimpse beyond the veil of fig obscuring my vision
Bodies
Dead bodies littered the now barren land. The grass was razed to the ground. Weapons lie scattered at their user's feet, blood dripping off them forming into crimson rivers that gathered around me
This is not modern day
This is...something else. A different place far from where I was just moments before
I could hear some of them gasping. Some were crying, begging for the pain to stop. Others were stilled, accepting the reality of their eventual demise
But they are alive. Although barely, they can still be saved
I don't know why, or how I came to be here. But I'm not about to just ignore them
Name:
MP: 800 Unit
A new window appeared before me. I glanced at it, before focusing on the scenery in front of me
The Gamer power. Then there's a big chance it will provide me some abilities that are useful
Choose your specialization
[Healing]
[Killing]
[Trading]
[Art]
I mentally chose the first one. Another window popped up
[Heal] (Lvl 1)
- Restore target's health by 10% for the next 50 seconds
Cost: 10 MP
I walked up to one of the more sober one. An old man wearing a haori with his katana sheathed by his side. He was lying in a pool of his own blood, clearly on the verge of dying yet still conscious
A swordsman. I'm clearly somewhere in the past. But...why? It was supposed to be a normal day to my lab to meet my colleagues
The question lingered in my head as I walked to him. The rain coating my presence until I am several foots in front of him
"Who are you?" The man asked, spotting me approaching his downed form "...You're not a warrior from your outfit. This is no place for civilians to wander here. Go back"
I didn't say anything
"Boy, listen to me. I'm almost dying. The enemy's still close. It's best if you run to the West now, else you'll be caught by them too"
Boy?
I looked down at myself. Indeed, it seems as though my body had regressed from a middle-aged man into that of a teenager's
I don't have any complain about that
[Heal]
A glowing blue light flashed from my palm. I watched as the Samurai's face morph into surprise as his body slowly stitched itself back together
Before he could say anything more, I had already went to the next injured men and cast my spells on them
[Heal]
[Heal]
[Heal]
I used it on about fifty men. By the time I was done, my mana reserve had already been depleted by half
The men I treat now still look pale, but most of them aren't on the verge of death anymore. Someone with high vitality could call for help to get them tend to
"Wait, who are you?"
I heard one of them called for me. I turned around to see the rest of the samurai forces staring at me in wonder
"I'm a doctor" I answered
"Dokutah? That's a weird name"
"No, that's-"
You know what? Nevermind. My real name doesn't matter that much to them anyway
"-Just remember to take care of yourselves. Brush your teeth three times a day, shower once a day. Clean yourself up properly in general to reduce infection from your wounds, because sanitary is the best secret to a long and healthy life"
With that, I walk away. The men, being too weak to stand, could only stare at my back as I did so

[Heal] (Maxed)
By continuously stabbing and healing myself in between periods of resting for my Mana to regenerate, I managed to grind my way forward until this basic skill hit max level
- On cast, restore target's health by 80% for the next 10 second.
- Maxed perk: Target's health regeneration is accelerated by 30% if their health fall below 50%
- Cost: 10 MP
My mana reserve seems be regenerating at a moderate pace. Around 20-30 MP per minute. It will take roughly 29 minutes to completely fill back
Before I could further contemplate, another window popped up
You have maxed out your first skill
A second skill had been learned
[Diagnosis]
- Allow you to glimpse at the target's external anatomy to determine their properties.
<><><><><><><><>
"Shh, this will only hurt a bit" I said, setting the girl's leg
I have realized that my [Diagnosis] works the same as a Gamer's [Observe]. The only difference is that it only works on people
And instead of showing me their stats and levels, I can use this to determine different things about my patient's body
Like this little girl. She weighed 40.39 kilogram with a height of 1.5330 meters. She is an active child, often doing tasks that require back muscle. Likely carrying and lifting objects. Her hand smelt of charcoal. One can take a guess as to what she does for a living
Back to the matter, her wound indicates she tripped while carrying a heavy load, leading to increased velocity. Due to the positioning of her ankle at the moment of the fall it was twisted at an exact degree of-
Okay I think you get the point
[Heal]
While I can use this to instantly restore her broken ankle, I chose to do it in a subtle way
I may have looked into my skills and learned to manipulate my Mana to tweak the spell somewhat...
Ah, whatever. Instead of raising more suspicion with my supposed magical ability, I've learned to just accelerate their healing speed over a long period of time by decreasing the mana channeling rate to their body
"Try not to touch the spot too much. Go home and take a rest, you'll find yourself back to normal in no time"
She lifted her foot, now carefully bandaged, and stared at it in amazement
"Thank you, Dokutah-san"
God damn it. The name's stuck it seems
"It's no problem"
Watching as she goes away, I checked my skill window
[Diagnosis] had been maxed out some time ago. Now there's several more skills that I an trying to understand
[Mass Heal] allows me to exert a lesser version of [Heal] over a larger radius, accompanied with instant revitalization when maxed out
[Medical Tool Creation] allows me to conjure permanent doctor's items such as syringe, scalpel, and medicine using my own mana. It's pretty useful, saved me a ton of money trying to purchase my own supply
Ah, speaking of Mana. My reserve had actually increased to 1,000 now. I still don't understand how that works
Sighing, I leaned back into the wall of my office and closed my eyes
It's been 3 months since I have been here
3 months living in old Japan. Or rather pre-modern Japan to be accurate
As far as I've seen, the technology here isn't exactly primitive. People are still using swords in the military, but most of them had implemented muskets in place of traditional bow and arrow
Military doctrines have also seems to be on the high ground. The three-line formation used by Oda Nobunaga had now become an important doctrine among soldiers for...approximately three hundred years if I remember right
The country has been advancing toward Europe's standard of living for a long time. Once the Meiji Restoration instigated by Ryouma kick in, that will be the start of true modernization for Japan
But what about me?
Well, in that time I have also found myself a place to settle down. An average clinic shall I say, where people would seek my help to treat the sick, and where I get the chance to level up my skill without their notice
I only took half the normal fee, and my patient always recover fast, so this place soon started to become popular for everyone
There has been a few cases where I have the misfortune of treating members of the Shinsengumi, but luckily most of them are pretty nice guys
Still. The question remained
Why am I suddenly teleported to the past?
Why am I given this power?
And how do I return to modern day?
