Tradition
Month of Si (March): Boon Phra Wet (The Vessantara Festival)
Boon Phra Wet, also known in the Isan region as Boon Pha Wet or the Great Merit-Making Ceremony, commemorates the story of Prince Vessantara — the penultimate incarnation of the Buddha — who fulfilled the Ten Perfections (Barami) before attaining enlightenment in his final life.
It is believed that anyone who listens to the full Mahachat sermon (the story of Prince Vessantara) in a single day will be reborn in the same time and place as the future Buddha in their next life.
