Tradition
Tradition in the Fifth Lunar Month (April): Boon Hod Song or Boon Songkran
This is a long-standing tradition passed down through generations. Boon Hod Song (or Boon Songkran) is a northeastern dialect term meaning the ceremonial pouring of water, typically done for monks. The festival is held during the Thai New Year or Songkran Festival.
A Buddha image is placed on a special platform for the water-pouring ceremony. Villagers bring water mixed with fragrant herbs, powder, or flowers to pour over the Buddha image at the temple. In addition to the religious rituals, people also engage in playful water splashing, which symbolizes welcoming the new year and cooling off from the summer heat.
