BEIJING/KATHMANDU: Beijing has strongly rejected allegations from regional commentators and sections in Nepal suggesting that a "geological disaster dam" collapse on the Chinese side triggered the catastrophic flash floods, dismissing the claims as "fake news."

As reported by The Times of India, the Chinese Embassy in Nepal issued a formal rebuttal addressing criticisms over the disaster and the alleged lack of an early warning system.

·         The Chinese Stance: Countering claims that infrastructure failure or a dam burst caused the surge, the embassy stated that an earthquake or glacier collapse occurred on the Nepali side on August 26, triggering massive mudslides that inflicted severe casualties on both sides of the Gyirong-Rasuwagadhi border.

·         Rejection of Warning Failures: Beijing dismissed accusations that it failed to share vital intelligence or monitor the high-altitude terrain, emphasizing that "accusation helps nothing" and calling instead for regional cooperation.
