NEW DELHI — The National Testing Agency (NTA) has strongly defended its provisional answer key challenge system, dismissing criticisms that the process is overly expensive and asserting that the mechanism is designed to ensure equity for all test-takers,

Addressing Cost and Transparency Concerns

Amid mounting public scrutiny and student protests concerning recent testing irregularities—including issues surrounding NEET-UG and the cancellation of several UGC-NET exam papers—the NTA issued a formal clarification via social media addressing the financial fee associated with challenging answer keys

·         The Fee Structure: The agency clarified that the nominal fee of ₹200 per question is intended strictly to deter frivolous and baseless objections that could otherwise delay the result finalization process, rather than to generate revenue.

·         Refund Policy: The NTA emphasized that the fee is fully refunded to any candidate whose challenge is upheld by subject matter experts.

The Principle of Collective Benefit

Highlighting the mechanics of the review process, the testing agency noted that a successful objection benefits every candidate who appeared for the exam, rather than exclusively the individual who filed the challenge:

"One challenge, everyone benefits. If even a single candidate challenges a question, and the subject experts accept the challenge, the revised answer key applies to every candidate who wrote the exam." — NTA Official Statement
