IS IT OKAY TO QUIT?
IS IT OKAY TO QUIT?
"Your Last Resort-The Real Life Catacalyst"
______________________
Life is Futile without putting in any Efforts-and nothing in this world comes to someone with any effort. From Childhood, we are taught one thing- HARDOWRK IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS. Although I don’t completely agree with this statement(as I believe that it takes Discipline, Consistency, hard work, and a Good Pinch of Luck to Succeed)-let's just say what I believe is another version of the former. So, I too believe that you need to work hard to achieve what you aim for be consistent with those Efforts and have persistence!
But what if, despite all your efforts, you still haven't achieved your goal? Should you quit? And if so, why? What's wrong with quitting? And if you think then why so? What is Wrong with Quitting?
THE FALLACY OF QUITTING
The last line that I wrote above, might have triggered some overwhelming response in the minds of readers. The problem is not with you, and nor is it with the Statement that I have made the problem is because of HOW WE HAVE BEEN RAISED.
Since childhood, we have seen and been told that “Winners Never Quit, and Quitters Never Win” and that, “Quitting isn’t The Solution”. And yes, whoever told me this, was right: "You need to work hard until you win-don’t give up even when nobody believes in you; have faith, keep trying and keep going."
As a matter of fact, for the whole of my life, I have, and I will live with this ATTITUDE of NOT GIVING UP ON MY DREAMS, AND WHAT I HAVE COMMITTED.
Note that this blog is not for making QUTTING A HABIT, OR TO PROMOTE A QUITTING MENTALITY(I am a strict opposer of Quitting Mentality). What I am speaking here is OF THOSE RARE TIMES WHERE QUITTING IS THE BEST AND THE ONLY ALTERNATIVE TO WIN!
RETHINKING SUCCESS: QUITTING TO ACHIEVE
Let’s assume a hypothetical scenario here to understand this well-
“You Start a Business, and you have Invested “x” amount of sum in it. You thought that this business of yours would be a complete blast and you would make 10x or 20x Money from this business. Unfortunately, things don’t go as planned, and you suffer some loss. As determined and dedicated you are, you still hang on and bear the loss-working harder, putting in more effort, and giving it your everything so as to see it make the big hit. But still, there is no big change. After putting in 2 to 3 years of your hard work and efforts into it, it hasn’t even reached 10% of what you thought it would.”
Now tell me, what would you do?
I know, some of you would say-“it is easier for anyone to SAY to quit because it's not your efforts or money. The one who Has to go through this, will never lose hope and will keep on trying!” But here is what I am trying to say, and see this through an example that I came across somewhere on the internet-
“If you want to charge Your Phone, you plug the charging brick in a Socket to charge it. You find out that your phone is not being charged-the socket is not working. In this case, what do you do? Yes, you have to LET GO of that charging socket and use another one to charge the Phone-waiting on the same socket with the hopes that MAYBE it all works out well is illogical and sheer foolishness!”
The same goes with life-Your aim was to Grow Financially, but because you chose Path A to reach that goal, and you eventually found that Path A led to a dead End, you have to QUIT it so as to choose another path that would take you to your Goal-your Destination.
Thus, you should never Quit or Give Up on your goals, but sometimes, we are so much into the process that we associate our GOALS with that PROCESS-delusion ourselves that the ONLY way to that Goal is via this PROCESS (and in some rare cases where you are in the only way to achieve your Goal, and even after all your efforts-I repeat this very clearly and precisely-AFTER ALL YOUR POSSIBLE EFFORTS and your legit 100%, if you still can’t make it, then you need to have the acceptance THAT IT ISN’T FOR YOU, and that, its time for you to focus your energy and efforts towards Plan B. And there is nothing bad in accepting that something isn't meant for you. Not every man is destined to get the same glory as Einstein-you know that you could not become a good Scientist-thus, its all about identifying your strengths and weaknesses and working on both of them while not forgetting the reality).
THE TAKEAWAY
Quitting is NOT A BAD THING-making a Quitter’s Mindset is BAD FOR YOU.
Treat Quitting as your LAST RESORT; Quit when you have put in all of your 100% and been patient enough as well for things to get Back on track with time. I have always been a Strong Believer in “Try Fast, Fail Fast” (which means, don’t hesitate to Try out new things, and Don’t be afraid to even fail at them. Try things fast, If you fail, learn from your mistakes, and then move on to either make it better, or switch to something where a new opportunity is waiting for you) and for such things, you need to understand that if you don’t Quit on the right time-you might miss on the next Opportunity that is waiting.
Believe it or not, Strategic Quitting is something one needs to learn and understand well. This is used in a lots of places-be it in Stock Market, be it Personal Life, or even Professional(when to join a Position and leave that Position; or which Area/Sector of one's business should be stopped, and which to start)- knowing when to Quit so as to prevent further Loss/Damage and Maximize the chances of Increased Profit/Growth is an essential skill one must learn and develop so as to progress!
To achieve something new, you may need to let go of old methods or strategies. If Plan A is not working out for you, you need to realize that your AIM was the GOAL and you just decided to try out Plan A as a way towards it. If Plan A is not working, don’t be stuck; Leave that, get for Plan B, and keep moving. As Energy and Efforts Focused in the Wrong Direction is equal to Aiming at NOTHING. And when you aim at NOTHING, you will get NOTHING!
Do Not take this BLOG OUT OF ITS CONTEXT-here, I say quitting to QUIT SOMETHING TO GET SOMETHING BETTER and then WORK TOWARDS IT!
Will see you again soon-Till then, Keep Learning, Keep Growing!
