Calculating Heights

The classification of the giants of human history is, to a large extent, the study of photographs. If we are lucky all of the information necessary for the task comes free of charge and effort- names, locations, heights established and verified by various sources, doctors, friends, family members, official records keepers such as the Guinness Book of Records. However when the occasional photograph surfaces that presents us with more questions than answers, the task of finding the answers becomes our own. The estimation of human heights from photographs will likely always be more art than science; so far as it can be considered a science, it remains an inexact science at best. But with a basic understanding of human anatomy and mechanics and with a bit of perspective theory and a dash of grit thrown in, it is a task that can be accomplished to a fair degree of accuracy.
