Phew! It sure is hard interviewing all these contestants. It’s making me kind of hungry… I knew I should’ve stolen some of Hiyoko’s gummies back then…
As Ibuki continues walking, she notices that the place has gotten a bit darker, and more green. Almost as if this world is void of the Sun. Throughout her walk, she bumped into a young teenage boy who seemed absolutely worried. He’s wearing a long shirt that seems akin to a poncho, along with maroon hair with a bit of a golden part to resemble a bird. This is Calamus, one of the few people to live inside the Glen.
WAH! P-please don’t hurt me!
Hurt you? Why would I hurt you?
Well, you bumped into me and I… I…
Calamus looks up to see Ibuki, concerned. He finds a shocking discovery, being that Ibuki is also a human.
You’re a… human?
In the flesh!
But… I don’t recognize you around these parts.
It’s probably because I’m new here… sheesh, it’s so dark.
That’s strange… ACK! I completely forgot! I need to find Alula and Niko!
Wait a minute… Niko?
Suddenly, another boy with a pair of goggles with green lenses and silver hair approach with the two missing folks. Niko appears along with a person that looks similar to Calamus, only with a more bluish hue.
Thanks for bringing us back, Cedric! We almost lost each other back there...
Thank you so much, Cedric!
Please. It is my pleasure.
Oh! There you guys are! Oh I was so worried…
When are you not worried, Calamus?
Niko looks at Ibuki and waves hello. What’s stranger is when Niko enters the area, it becomes a little bit brighter.
You must be some of Niko’s friends!
Yup! The name’s Alula, and the person with the goggles is Cedric.
Greetings.
Sweet! The name’s Ibuki. Do you mind if I ask Niko and the rest of you some questions?
What kind of questions?
Just questions about you all and... this place.
Doesn’t sound like it would do any harm. What do you guys say?
I think it’ll be fine.
I’d love to answer!
Mhm!
Great! First question… Why is it so dark here?
Ever since the Sun disappeared, the world around us turned very dark. It was only until Niko here showed up to help save this world.
Ohhh! Is that the reason why it got brighter when they got here?
It’s not them… it’s the Sun!
Niko holds up a yellow ball that brightens the area around her.
Wait… they stole it?!
No, they found it and they're bringing it back. Just like the prophecy said.
Prophecy?
It’s something Niko explained. Apparently they have to bring this yellow thing, which is the Sun, back to the Tower!
We’re helping them traverse through the Glen, that way they can go to the Tower faster.
Interesting! Final question… what is “the Glen?”
It’s a place where us bird folks and the humans have resided since the Old World collapsed. There are many places to visit in the Glen.
We live next to the Courtyard. Me and Calamus play there a lot.
Sometimes we lose each other and I spend most of the day looking for Alula.
I’m usually spending my time by the Graveyard. I have a machine I tend to and want to fix up.
Wow, this place sure sounds fun! I’d love to stay here for some time.
I recommend you do it when Niko returns the Sun to the Tower. Speaking of which, should we go? I can take you to the Refuge, Niko.
Niko nods and walks along with Cedric. Before they depart, Niko waves goodbye to Ibuki.
Goodbye, Niko! So what about you Ibuki?
I’ll have to go back to where I came from too. It was a pleasure to meet all of you!
It’s no problem. Goodbye!
Ibuki waves goodbye and departs to return home. As soon as Ibuki leaves earshot, Alula turns to Calamus and finds a face that shows his confusion.
Is something bothering you, Calamus?
It’s… weird.
What is?
She’s not from this world… almost as if she’s from an entirely different one.
And?
…It’s nothing. Let’s go play around by the Courtyard.
