“The Play Space is a child centered third space intended to provide an all-weather inclusive play space while fostering a sense of community and connection among caregivers.”
The Board of Directors' "Why" for taking on this project
My name is Christina Anderson, and I chose to be involved with The Play Space because this is a dream of my heart. When I was a SAHM, I remember feeling like I had nowhere indoors to take my son. We often played outside and went to the park, but we didn’t have anywhere indoors that my son could burn off energy. I have told my husband many times that I wished someone would do an indoor play area for kids and that if I had a group of people surrounding me I would participate in setting it up. Four years later Alissa posted about a need on her Facebook page. I JUMPED on the opportunity to make an indoor play area in Phillips County a reality! I am so excited to be a part of this, and to see where it goes and the many doors it opens to further meet the needs of Phillips County and the surrounding areas!
My name is Falon Bretton. When I heard about the idea, I knew The Play Space would be such a huge asset to our community. We are passionate about building a place where everyone can feel a sense of belonging. Fostering relationships with other community members allows us all to connect on an even deeper level. This community had a large impact on my upbringing and I’m excited to be a part of a group who is enhancing the upbringing of children in our community for years to come!
My name is Jordan Imel. I grew up in this community, and now I'm getting to raise my family in this same community. I want to create opportunities for my kids and future families who choose to reside in this community. My idea for The Play Space is a place where mothers can connect with other mothers and children with other kids. New families can become familiar with names and faces, and we can create relationships that grow and invest in this great community.
I am Alissa Kirchhoff. I have been so fortunate to live in a community that has welcomed my family, my business, and my dreams with open arms. From day one, others have invested in my future. Now it’s my turn to invest in the future of Phillips County. We live in a community of generous, kind, and hardworking individuals who deserve to feel welcome, connected, and valued. It’s my hope that The Play Space, and someday The Third Space, will be a physical location to foster that kind of community feel.
My name is Billie Knowles. Living in rural Kansas is a privilege that comes with a unique responsibility to our future generations. In Phillips County, we have the opportunity to shape the experiences of our children and contribute to their well-being. Our group is committed to making a positive impact on the place our families call home, fostering a legacy of improvement and progress. It gives me so much hope for our future; that my grandchildren may enjoy the fruits of our labor one day in our thriving community, all because a small group of women had a dream and desire to serve.
I am Alissa Krafft. My interest and “why” for being a part of this project started out with my own children in mind. I had visited with other local moms with active little kids like mine and it became even more clear that our community could greatly benefit from a facility like The Play Space. As I’ve worked with this amazing group of women, I have become even more passionate to help see this project through. The benefit to our community, the youth and caregivers is huge and I am so thankful to be apart of it!
My name is Esme Walker. When I heard there was interest in opening an indoor children's play area, I was excited! I am so happy to be a part of growth in this small, but mighty, community. Working with this amazing group of women has been very rewarding. I am so grateful to be able to help provide this much needed asset to the community.
