From Vaccinations to Runways: MCU Hosts Pet Care Program

On September 28, 2024, Manila Central University (MCU) organized the Pet Care Program at the Learning Resources Center (LRC) Activity Area. The event was spearheaded by an NSTP class from the College of Optometry (OP 2-2), in partnership with local animal welfare organizations and leading pet care brands.

A key feature of the program was the Free Anti-Rabies Vaccination initiative, which provided vaccinations to the first 100 registered pets. This effort addressed rabies, a significant public health issue in the Philippines, by promoting accessible pet healthcare.

The event also included a Pet Care Talk featuring experts such as Ms. Lisette Valdez, Mr. RJ Jervoso Jr., Ms. Lorence Pimentel Oh Uy, and Ms. Bernard Lacerna. They shared practical advice on pet health, behavior, and nutrition, providing attendees with essential knowledge to enhance their pets’ well-being.

Another highlight was the Pet Bazaar, where attendees explored offerings from trusted brands such as Besh Pet Products, Aozi Pure Natural Organic Pet Food, Bantay Adult Dog Food, Pick-a-Paw, Paw Smart, Nutri Care, and MAG Pet Supplement. The bazaar featured high-quality pet food, supplements, and accessories, catering to pet owners' diverse needs.

The program's most engaging activity was the Pet Fashion Show, where pets and their owner's showcased creativity and style on the runway. Prizes were awarded to the most stylish participants, making it a memorable and enjoyable experience for all.

The event was supported by organizations such as the Valenzuela South Alpha Dogs Community (VSAD), De La Salle Araneta University (DLSAU) VetMed Volunteers, and the Philippine Canine Club Incorporated (PCCI). These groups collaborated to promote responsible pet ownership and ensure access to veterinary care within the community.

The MCU Pet Care Program highlighted the bond between humans and animals, combining free healthcare services, expert guidance, and engaging activities to create a meaningful and enjoyable event for pet owners and their furry companions alike.
