Two dentistry students from Manila Central University (MCU) recently completed a 16-day academic and cultural exchange program at Niigata University in Japan. Fifth-year students and junior clinicians Roa Allison Camacho and Kyle Mayo Tayag represented the MCU College of Dentistry in a program designed to deepen clinical knowledge and foster a global perspective.
The exchange exposed the students to Japan’s advanced dental education system and provided opportunities to engage with international peers in a collaborative academic environment. They observed various teaching methods, participated in lectures and clinical sessions, and explored emerging technologies in dentistry.
Beyond the academic experience, Camacho and Tayag immersed themselves in Japan’s rich cultural heritage during their stay. These cultural interactions strengthened their intercultural communication skills and broadened their understanding of how culture shapes healthcare practices.
The program emphasized the increasing importance of global exposure in health education. Through international collaboration, students gain valuable insights into diverse dental care systems, better equipping them to navigate a more interconnected and evolving healthcare landscape.
Camacho and Tayag’s successful participation brought pride to the MCU community. They demonstrated professionalism, adaptability, and a strong commitment to learning—qualities that reflect the university’s mission to develop globally competent and ethically grounded professionals.
Their journey exemplifies the spirit of global collaboration that MCU aims to instill in its students. Their performance abroad not only highlights their dedication but also underscores the strength of the education provided by the College of Dentistry.
As they return to Manila, Camacho and Tayag bring with them not just enhanced clinical knowledge but also a renewed sense of purpose shaped by international learning. Their experience stands as an inspiration for fellow Centralinos to embrace academic opportunities beyond borders.
The exchange program at Niigata University marks a transformative step in the professional development of Camacho and Tayag. Their story is a testament to the power of international education in preparing the next generation of dental professionals to lead with both cultural awareness and global insight.
