Change is in the air at DJDS, one of the biggest changes being the new school principal.
“The school did an outstanding job [finding a new school principal]” said former DJDS principal Jason Snyder.
Snyder announced that he would leave DJDS for the 2023-2024 school year in November of last year. Dr. Jeremy Golubcow-Teglasis, fondly known as Dr.G.T., took over Snyder’s 7-year term.
Dr. GT has a Ph.D. in Educational Administration and Policy from the University of Michigan. Along with a bachelor's degree from Princeton, he also holds a J.D. from Yale Law School. Dr. G.T. Prides himself on being a Jewish day school graduate— he attended Maryland-based Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School.
Jeremy began his tenure as upper division principal in the summer of 2023. Before that, he taught here, at DJDS, for 5 years as a history and social studies teacher. This transition from teaching history and social studies to being the upper division principal really reflects his dedication to the school's bigger picture.
“From the beginning, I was interested in the bigger picture,” said Jeremy, “When I heard that this year would be Mr. Snyders's last, I thought I could sort of stop dreaming about these things.”
Currently, Dr. G.T. teaches his AP U.S. History class and a Moot Court club on Wednesday.
It is clear that Jeremy has a deep passion for DJDS and only wants to see it thrive. In fact to help do that, on the first day of school Dr. G.T. released a new initiative called ‘We Can’s Do It’. If you are unsure about what this initiative is striving for, the ultimate goal is to get people to recycle their cans, to help better the planet.
Dr. G.T. also instituted the new Wednesday schedule, which empowers students to choose activities that cater to their own interests. This, in turn, provides students with the opportunity to tailor their day and foster a more engaging and personalized learning environment. This approach allows students to maximize their involvement in learning. However, if you want to learn more about this, go check out our other article titled ‘What’s New with Wednesdays?’.
With the dawn of this new era at DJDS, it isn’t just about changes in the leadership and schedules; it's about the vow of a spirited educational journey, focused on the students. As the school year unfolds under the new guidance of Dr. G.T., the DJDS community eagerly anticipates the development and growth that this year will bring.
“During my time at DJDS, I have fallen in love with this school -- both for what it is and for what it can be,” said Jeremy.
