In the bustling halls of the beloved institution known as DJDS, there exists treasured stories waiting to be heard—the history of the Paw. From the whispers of its start to the echoes of its most recent editions, our school newspaper stands as proof of the vibrant spirit and legacy of our community.
“It feels great to be a part of something that can have so much of an impact on people,” said Editor-in-Chief Cooper Coughlan. As we journey to trace its roots, we dive into the significance of this publication and the role it plays in the fabric of our small school.
The Paw has been around at DJDS since the early 2000s. Along with The Paw, Litmag exists to provide a creative outlet for students, while The Paw serves to deliver the most current news to students. Now, The Paw and Lit Mag have essentially combined via the student section of The Paw’s website.
The Paw isn't merely a collection of words on paper; it is a mirror reflecting the collective voice of our student body. Through its paragraphs, students find a platform to share their perspectives and celebrate achievements both big and small. In a place where every voice matters, The Paw serves as a place for expression, fostering a sense of belonging and unity among students, faculty, and staff. “Not only has it been an outlet for select students, it’s been something special for all the students, teachers, and even parents to enjoy,” Coughlan said.
Furthermore, the Paw serves as a vital bridge between the past, present, and future of our school. It chronicles the milestones, traditions, and evolution of our community, preserving memories for generations to come. From documenting the sports victories to spotlighting the outstanding achievements, each edition of The Paw contributes to the rich tapestry of our school's history.
“This paper issue is only the beginning and I'm looking forward to seeing how it continues to evolve and see the difference it can make in our school community,” Coughlan said. In an era where digital media dominates, the tangible presence of a school newspaper provides a tangible connection to our roots, grounding us in our shared heritage.
