Paranaque Science High School community expressed their high hopes as they cast their votes in various precincts in Paranaque on May 9.

Elections 2022 has been the talk of the town for about eight months since candidates filed their certificates of candidacy in October 2021. Campaign rallies and debates were all over the streets and online platforms, yet it all lands with one hope – good governance.

Hence, ParScians – specifically Senior High Schools aged 18 and above have done their part on this year's national election polls.

“Bilang first time voter, nakakakaba't nakakabalisa ang aking naging karanasan. Sa kabila ng karanasang iyon, nakaramdam ako ng pag-asa nang simulan kong piliin ang mga pangalang sa tingin ko'y magsisilbing behikulo tungo sa malinis at maayos na pamumuno,” James Andrie Villar stated when asked about their voting experience.

In another statement, Vianca Mayree Torre also expressed their nervousness as a first-time voter. "When I started voting, I felt like I was voting not just for my country, but the future generation too, I didn't think that my vote isn't that important because I know that even a single vote matters," they added.

As of the closing of voter's registration on October 30, 32.7% of all SHS students or almost 68% of all eligible students are registered voters for the 2022 elections.

Among currently ineligible SHS students, 98.5% plan to register for future elections.

In ParSci, 32.7% are registered voters, courtesy of the survey conducted by The Momentum with then-batch representatives Michelle Valenciano and Charla Mendez. This is 68% of the school's Senior High students who are eligible to vote for the 2022 elections.

Further reports have also indicated that 56% of May 2022 comprises the youth sector or the ages 18 to 41 years old.

Correspondingly, the youth's involvement in this year's national elections has vocally flaunted their aspirations and concerns for the future. The strong participation of the young generations has established discourse and their stance on socio-political issues across the country.

This shows that the active participation and involvement of young people are highly encouraged not only in the elections in 2022 but also in other aspects of socio-political issues that coexist in the country.
