Totality

Today I'm seeing the total solar eclipse. It may be the last time I ever see one, but it won't be the first.
I remember seeing the 2017 eclipse, 7 years ago. I was scrambling to get pictures of everything I could, the eclipse itself, the sunset all around, and still they turned out blurry and crispy because I was only using my phone. But I still took a moment to look up and just see it for myself. And no photo I could take nor artwork I could draw amounts to what I saw.
One year later, I started making Darkhouse. You can see in that game how much the eclipse means to me, how it inspires and influences my work. It was the start of my journey as a game developer, and now it returns at the end of it, but also at the start of a new journey. Maybe when I really need it most. And it makes me wonder if it's time to start making Darkhouse again.
I'll be sure to take the time to fully experience the eclipse this time, instead of stressing out over capturing the moment, because that moment is for me alone. A crunchy photo is all I need to remember it. And making art of it is how I express what it means to me.
