We all need to laugh more, love more and actively embrace Life...... AND ENJOY IT!
Taking care of your body, mind and spirit is often a lifestyle choice that is first shaped by our parents and then we continue with it into later life. Sometimes we need to stop, think and then seek help, guidance and support to make lifestyle changes.
Looking after our bodies and our health are probably the most publicised and discussed topics. Food & Drink being one of the most interesting to chat about but too often it's about excesses and those luxury treats.
Alison, a busy working mum with four children transformed her life by losing over 5 stone and is now using her success to help others to change their lives and achieve their weight loss dreams too.
When Alison joined her Slimming World group in Navan she dropped from a size 18/20 to a size 12/14.
Now she has trained as a consultant for Slimming World, UK and Irelands largest group based weight loss organisation, at their national training academy in Derbyshire. Members at the group have welcomed Alison as their New Consultant since she took over the Johnstown group, Navan on 7th September.
Like a lot of slimmers, I had tried to lose weight so many times before by following numerous diets but they were never sustainable, I even tried fat burning medication. But they were all short term solutions which in most cases made me feel worse about myself. I loved food and every time I felt restricted in things I could eat. I really felt overwhelmed with my weight and felt I was destined to struggle for the rest of my life. I knew I had to try something different and it was at that stage a friend of mine rang me and asked me to go along with her to Slimming World. I knew I had to be selfish and make sure that I took time for myself to attend group each week and stay to group. Support is really the most important thing.
It all starts with feeling that you’re not alone. I couldn’t have lost my weight without the weekly help, encouragement and understanding of my own Consultant and group. As someone who has lost weight myself I know the challenges people can face, which is why, along with the group, I will be there to support every one of my members all the way to their chosen target weight. Setting targets, sharing recipes and other ideas, and working together as a group to overcome challenges and celebrate success is so important to a successful journey. That’s why, at my Slimming World group, there’ll be tons of support, encouragement and fun.
Our Body Magic programme takes the threat out of activity by showing people, many of whom have unpleasant memories of being forced to take part in activity at school, how they can build activity into their daily routine without having to take up traditional forms of exercise like going to the gym or running. Everything counts from walking to gardening to washing the car. I love to lap pitches and walk at weekends averaging 6 kms at a time to get my Body Magic! Something I would never have attempted before losing weight. As a Consultant it’s my role to create that warm, supportive atmosphere to get people sharing their ideas and experiences to help others - it’s going to be great fun!
I follow the Extra Easy plan, lots of free food, healthy extras which are all clearly explained when starting out. There’s nothing diet related to this plan, no counting calories, portion control, just good, wholesome fresh foods. The family all eat the same meals, including all of our favorite Slimming World recipes like tarragon chicken, creamy cajun pasta plus our Saturday morning full Irish. The options are endless.
I never feel deprived because I can eat as much as I like and still factor in treats and nights out. I have rediscovered my passion for cooking and trying new tastes. Gone are the ready made packets and jars.
Plenty of tasty meals on the Facebook Page.
Alison’s Slimming World group will be held at Navan Rugby Club, Dublin Road every Thursday at 5.30pm and 7.30pm. For more information or to join Alison’s group either pop along to the group at the Rugby Club, visit the Facebook page ‘Slimming World Navan with Alison’ or call her on 0831134829.
