October Edition 2017
We first reported that the public group Safer Meath Campaign was forming in our August Edition. It's aim is to communicate the message to central and local government that the people of Johnstown, of Navan, of County Meath and Country Wide want to see action taken which regains our sense of public safety.
The public opinion surrounding anti social behaviour, and worse, does not appear to be sufficiently represented in the support and powers provided to the Gardai.
We now know that issuing ASBO's is an available option to bring both young offenders and their parents to account but we're not aware of any reports to see if they're being used locally.
6 weeks before Halloween, and despite being illegal, the fireworks have been ricocheting through Johnstown. We've heard of one direct hit to a car but.......dare I say it ......that things have now either been dealt with by the Gardai or the youngsters have simply run out of fireworks.....but we suspect they'll get more.
Last year was much the same with fireworks being thrown at passers bye outside the Johnstown Shopping Centre. It was reported that one offender said that they were 'just throwing them at each other' but that's no excuse - we're talking about explosives that WILL HURT.
It's not a meeting for The Safer Meath Campaign but is a meeting for the Meath Joint Policing Committee.
