Organised with the help of lots of volunteers we saw 100's of Colaiste na Mi Secondary School students take part in their inaugural fun run raising money for Crumlin Children's Hospital on Friday 27th Oct.
After the recent storms and high winds it was fantastic to see the sun come out to support of the students providing excellent running conditions and we asked the School organisers more:
Colaiste na Mi, in conjunction with Crumlin Medical Research Fund, The Parents Association and Meath Local Sports Partnership held our inaugural 6Km Fun Run on Friday 27th October.
Staff students and parents from the school and the Johnstown community donned their runners and took to the streets of Johnstown and Athlumney to raise funds for the sick children in Our Lady’s Hospital Crumlin. From a school perspective, it was heart-warming to see so many teachers, parents and students building relationships, enhancing school spirit and having fun through physical activity and exercise.
"At our core is the belief that every sick child deserves every chance. We want little patients to have the best possible outcomes through access to world class research, equipment and treatments when they become ill. We can only do this with your help." Lisa-Nicole Dunne, CEO, CMRF.
Over 700 students and teachers took part in the whole school event with each student getting behind the fundraising efforts. To date, the response from the Johnstown/Navan Community has been immense, with over €10,000 raised to date with money still coming in. This response highlights the generosity, goodwill and kindness of the local community providing much needed funds for the purchase and maintenance of specialist equipment for the Children’s hospital. A special mention must also go to the students who took an active role in fundraising. Their commitment, hard work and generosity has been rewarded through a very successful fundraising campaign.
Colaiste na Mi would like to say a massive thank you to all who have helped in the organisation, support and implementation of this event, particularly, Meath Local Sports Partnership, Crumlin Medical Research Foundation, The C.N.M. Parents Association, An Garda Siochana and Meath Civil Defence.
One of several groups of students gathered at the start line.
Starting and finishing at the Shopping Centre Roundabout the 5km route took students along Metges Road to descend down Kentstown Rd into Navan before a long flat run along the river to the final rise up from the Ardboyne Bridge to the finish line.
Involving our Community Garda, Civil Defense and many volunteers to Marshall the stages the School set the students a challenge with a route taking them on a 5km route through the area.

We're hoping to see this become an annual fundraising event.
With over a dozen Navan active clubs Slimming World involves hundreds of local residents and so we caught up with Carmel.
