February Edition 2018
We're now a full month into the New Year's Resolutions and Fitness and health always come high in people's aspirations. Operation Transformation is lending it's support to getting us active so it's therefore no surprise to see so many more people out walking and pacing the pavements. Actually we're more visibly active right now than in the summer months.
Dressed in the HiVis vests we notice the runners and walkers these dark evenings and thanks to our newest waking club there's more reason to join in.
Navan Evening Walks has been set up and organised by Niamh so we paced the streets to find out more.
I wanted to get some regular exercise after work but simply couldn't find a local group. We're walking for fitness but it's a great chance to meet and chat with people from the neighbourhood along the way.
We've a Facebook Page and even though it's called Navan Evening Walks we set off from Johnstown and often head towards Navan.
We have small groups of around 6 to 10 which is enough to provide motivation when the energy levels drop and everyone of all ages are welcome.
We communicate on our Facebook Page and usually meet inside the street entrance of the Johnstown Shopping Centre on Monday 8pm & Wednesday 7.30pm.
On a Monday we plan a 5km walk and Wednesday we go further for 8km but on average we spend at least an hour walking although you can shorten the walk. We're getting quicker and plan to build up the distance but it's too cold at the moment for more than an hour outside.
Very popular among residents THIS LINK shows some of the potential routes around the local area together with how long Google Maps thinks it could take to walk.
Looking to escape for a night away then we have a local man who can bring you great offers.
Another group inspired by Operation Transformation gets locals pacing the streets in a bid to get healthier.
