Who would have thought that Johnstown could host activities that introduce residents to sports that they might not otherwise have had the chance to try.
With over one hundred clubs active in the Navan area throughout the week it's fair to say you need to drive to the vast majority which isn't an option for everyone.
It's also true that not everyone likes the traditional sports and competitive games.
Meath Local Sports Partnership arranged for several clubs to introduce a wide variety to the local children. Over 20 attended each of the 3 Saturdays showing three essential facts:
We would like to thank the clubs who volunteered their time and we would also like to thank the Residents of Bailis Downs for allowing these Pilot Events to take place on their Green Space.
In the new year we'll engage with Meath Local Sports Partnership and see if a series of events can be put together. There are many other Green areas throughout Johnstown that could be put to more use. They don't need to be regarded as costly decoration. We're all aware that the grass needs cutting and that residents bear the brunt of this cost. That's not going to ever change but value for this can be so much more if we put them to better use especially when it's to the benefit of residents.
However, it takes volunteers to engage with Meath Local Sports Partnership and that's where we need your help. Simply put 'Could this be You?' It only takes one to act as a contact with MLSP and also to coordinate with your estate to gain support.
One thing to notice is how small the space required is for these events.
Meath Local Sports Partnership host a variety of activities across all of Navan and their open to a variety of age groups and abilities.

If you missed last month's article.
Multi Sports Events have come to Johnstown to see if we can make use of what we have and engage Residents and become active.
A Special Note of Thanks to Johnstown Tidy Town Volunteers who collect the rubbish that enables our children to play safely as well as keeping the appearance of the area litter free.
With evenings becoming darker earlier it's a chance to light the fires and add fragrances to the home.
