Synopsis: RoboCop returns to protect the citizens of old Detroit but faces a deadly challenge when a rogue OCP member secretly creates a new, evil RoboCop 2.
Intentions: I was greatly inspired by Mcclane77Hard's and ShadowVessel's edits, and the original Robocop is one of my top five all time favorite films. I've always had a soft spot for the sequel's broad concepts, along with numerous unforgettable sequences, but the movie is a clear step down from it's predecessor.
My first goal was to reduce the primary blue quality to Robocop's suit in order to better match the original's more titanium color tone. After color grading and making edits to streamline the narrative, I swapped in songs from the original film's score to the opening titles and two key scenes. Additionally, I utilized cut scenes that I didn't even know existed before watching the aforementioned edits that inspired mine.
As a result, my hope is that this Robocop 2 cut offers a markedly improved experience compared to the theatrical version, and that it honors the original Robocop film.
Change List:
Began the film with a deleted scene from Robocop of Morton and Johnson discussing Robocop and the possibility of their being more units made. Added the original film theme and a scanline filter to the footage. This start was inspired by Mcclane77Hard's Robocop 2 edit.
Added the title card from the end of the film to after this clip
Cut Robocop stating "Peace Officer" to the first batch of criminals, and confirming that the drug he find is Nuke since a few minutes ago the newscast just taught the audience what Nuke is
Added the original Robocop theme to the scene of Robo walking through Old Detroit in search of the Nuke factory
Cut Robo locking Nuke cooks in a freezer because it makes no sense for them not to hear him stomping so close behind them
Removed the OCP lawyer's repetitious line, "a man's love" since this hits the nail on the head a bit
Added the scene from the Prime Directives miniseries of Robo visiting his grave, as inspired by Mcclane77hard's edit
Removed the Old Man and Johnson repeating exposition that will only be repeated after the failed Robocop 2 montage
Shortened Officer Duffy's realization that he's SOL at the arcade once Robocop arrives
Shortened the fight between Lewis and the Hob so that she doesn't come off as incapable fighting against a child
Shortened Robo's drive to the old sludge plant where Cain is hold up and added the Van Chase theme from the original film
Eliminated Robo's car exploding because the henchman immediately find him loudly walking into the factory afterwards
Removed Robo slowly following after Cain's girlfriend because I always found it foolish that he didn't shout a command at her, like, "Freeze!" Instead, the shot of Robo looking at Elvis's corpse cuts right to him finding Cain
Cut the doctor asking Murphy to go downstairs for diagnostics after he returns from OCP repairs.Without this exchange, Murphy's issues are telegraphed more slowly throughout the next scenes
Moved the scene with Cain and Frank Miller in between the montage of the reprogrammed
Robo's shenanigans. My hope is that this will help increase the amount of time spent with Robo in this condition (at least by a minute and 10 seconds of run time)
Cut Robocop remarking how wonderful the moon looks during the day
Cut Robo's speech to the cops after recovering from an electric shock
Removed Cain and Robo revving up before facing off in their respective vehicles
Reduced banter during Cain's autopsy
Added a deleted Snyder Bixby commercial from Robocop with scanlines added before cutting to the Save Detroit telethon, inspired by ShaddowVessel
Cut down on the mayor's arrival at the Hob's factory to make a deal for Save Detroit
Made Cain's reaction to his girlfriend saying, "it'll take some getting used to" more immediate because otherwise, his motivations for attacking her are unclear
Removed the Hob saying that dying, "really sucks" to help maintain his character's maturity
Shortened Cain's final demise once Robo smashes his brain
