As we all know by now, Mike Trout is the best baseball player on the face of the planet. If you disagree, please take you and your incompetent self elsewhere. Now that all the level headed people are still here, let's continue.
AJ Pollock has been a bright-spot on this Dodgers team that has been a little cold at the plate recently. Now, you may ask, what does the best player in baseball and a guy who went 0-13 with 11 strikeouts in the 2019 NLDS have in common? Besides playing centerfield in SoCal (I refuse to call Anaheim a part of Los Angeles), not much. But they did both recently become fathers and I am going to tell you why they now have the elite power called “Dad Power”.
I would first like to say congratulations to both players on becoming fathers recently. Trout and his wife Jessica announced the birth of their son, Beckham Aaron Trout on July 30. I mean, the kids initials are B.A.T. Just put him in the Hall of Fame already. Likewise, Pollock and his wife Kate announced the birth of their baby daughter Maddie May Pollock. Once again, congratulations to both couples.
Now lets get into the meat. Ever since returning to the Angels line-up, Mike trout has quite literally been unstoppable. Just ask the A’s Twitter.
Jokes aside, since returning on August 4 (9 games), he has hit 7 home runs with 12 rbi and has a slash of .351/.390/.919. Before that, He was only batting .292 with 1 home run. One! Granted he only played 6 games before leaving the team but still. There can only be one answer, Dad Power. He has 34 total bases on 13 hits in the span of those 9 games and in his first 7 at bats back from leave, he hit 3 home runs. But you can say “Oh it's Mike Trout, You can expect that from him”, and you may be right, but I still have my secret weapon.
AJ Pollock. The majority of Dodger fans hate him. He was a Dodgers killer when he played for the Diamondbacks and then came to Los Angeles on a 4 year contract and still continued to kill the Dodgers and was on and off the IL constantly. In 2019 he slashed .266/.327/.468 which in all honesty isn’t of all things that terrible but he was very streaky. And in the 2019 NLDS like I mentioned above, he was awful. But now in 2020 he looks like a new man. In the 9 games to open the 2020 season, Pollock hit .364/.417/.758 with 4 home runs on a Dodgers team that is filled with offensive superstars. I don't care what you say, that right there is a changed man. 12 hits in 33 at bats with 25 total bases and 6 rbi’s is still good in a 9 game span. Now you can say he has cooled down but that doesn't erase the fact that he started off the season on fire, right after having the birth of his daughter proving only one thing. Dad-power is real.
In conclusion, having a kid will give you superpowers in your first few games back on the diamond. Dont argue with me, argue with the stats.
