The city’s façade sells us a dream that absolution is fulfilled only within its reach.

The aim of this thesis is to deploy and develop a sophisticated model for urban organisation to open up the city as well as, releasing its inhabitants from the imprisonment of their subjectivity and conceptual blindness. This ‘weak modernisation’ theory backing up the model, is introduced and has neglected to account for the role of power and politics functioning as the force utilising the city as a power tool and those charged with its design - a shortcoming this thesis addresses.

Using the case study of two peculiar cities, Manhattan NY and Lagos Nigeria; the former being the epicentre of modern civilisation and the latter which has been physically inhabited; to explore the distinct conditions at conflict with one another; although, still both following flawed paradigms.

The testing ground utilised to unpack the critical issues outlined in this thesis is Andrea Branzi’s Agronica as a follow up to the proposal of a radically different form of territorial organisation that unifies these opposing conditions into one cohesive system.

The significance of this study of partial utopias, Delirious New York, and No Grid Lagos, informs our theoretical understanding of the logic of form to regain traditional prerogatives by the fixation of the known and designable that is lacking; and informs our empirical understanding of authorship, civilisation, and the city - using the body, an object and critical text.

Everywhere + ‘Nowhere’ will introduce a new intention for ‘absoluteness’ by unpacking our collective consciousness.

This proposition for a new meaning will be broken down into organised fragments and will be utilised as a new tool for the city to redefine new forms of existence and advancement without swallowing its inhabitants whole. Embarking on a process of dissemination, elimination and re-articulation to embrace absence and reimagine an archetype for ‘infinite possibilities’.
