Skirting Board and Architraves

Skirtings and architrave should be installed as per the design. Where joints are formed, they should appear continuous.

  • Skirting boards cut to a close mitre, flush with the architrave.

  • Fixed twice at maximum centres of 600mm.

  • Joints to be glued.

  • Terminations points e.g. with tile trim, finish with chamfered edge.

  • Architraves cut to a 45° at corners running consistently and flush.

  • Avoid tight edges into corners. Cut down skirting board if required.

  • Margins between the frame and architrave must be equal in both jambs and head.

  • Ensure corners and nail holes are filled and sanded down.

  • Once decorated, skirting board should look seamless from 2m away.

  • Junctions between skirting board and architraves appear must be seamless from 2m away.

  • On concrete upper floors in apartments ensure the skirting board is positioned on top of the Robust Detail flanking strip.

  • The flanking strip should then be cut flush with the edge of the skirting board.

  • Architraves of neighbouring doors must be level and consistant throughout the hall or landing.

  • Margins between architraves and edge of doorframe must be equal throughout the length of the architrave.
