Soil and Waste Systems

Soil and waste systems shall be installed in accordance with the Building Regulations and installed to ensure that effluent is removed without affecting health or creating unnecessary noise and smell.

  • Waste pipes tightly fitted into the female connection with drainage adaptor on the floor.

  • Waste pipes less than 100mm have end cap installed to prevent smells re-entering the building.

  • SVP clipped at 1.3m centres.

  • Clips fastened with plugs and screws.

  • Hair felt should be used between clip and SVP.

  • SVP insulated within boxing to prevent noise transmission.

  • Clips backed with hair felt or support must be provided within 150mm of joints.

  • Waste pipe work to be insulated against sound.

  • Plasterboard in position prior to installing SVP into roof space to allow for correct size opening.

  • Seal around the pipe to help prevent air leakage.

  • If fire stopping is required, then refer to Building Regulations.

  • SVP terminating to atmosphere via a roof tile should clipped to the trusses at no more than 1.2m intervals.

  • Provide additional timber battens if it is not possible to fix to the truss.

  • Elephant trunk connections to tile vent must be fixed using jubilee clips.

  • Air admittance valve (AAV) installed to SVP.

  • AAV must terminate a minimum of 150mm above the insulation.

  • SVP insulated with a minimum of 25mm of sound insulation.

  • Shower traps must be supported directly below.

  • All waste pipes within floor void should be clipped hair felt backing at 600mm centres.

  • Hair felt used when waste pipes pass through joist webbing to prevent noise created by thermal movement.

  • All waste pipes to be insulated for sound within floor voids and boxings with a minimum of 25mm insulation.

  • All waste pipes underneath the sink must return back to wall and not go through the cupboard flooring.
